Re: What do you think?

Nice car for a 17 yr old. If I had that when I was 17
it most likely would have died a quick and painful
death, by my hand....

Wow thanks guys. Yes, it's Atlantic blue. From what I hear, it's a rare color. First thing to do is 3.90 gears, and then lower it. That is if I don't sell it. It's posted on Craigslist for now!

Honestly, I hate fords. I just got a killer deal on this car... $2000. Here comes the hate. But I've got a 318 powered Dakota, 5 speed, two wheel drive, and its making 397 horse at the wheels. Here comes more hate. It EATS 5.0s. But it takes the ls1 camaros too. I'm more of a mopar guy, and I'm thinking of selling the car to put a small turbo on my Dakota, or building a 408 stroker for it.

All in all it's a blast to drive. But when you step out of that truck, and then get Into this, it just isn't all that great.

Chrysler was good in the 90s with the dsm's, the eagle talon and plymouth laser, but even then mitsubishi did all the work!

I'll agree with every word you said. Dodge engineers weren't the smartest, but they build tough things. I had a 239 (3.9 V6) in the Dakota, and just for *****s and giggles I put a srt4 turbo on it to try and blow it up. Stock bottom and top end, with 9lbs of boost. I beat the snot out of it for the past year, put 30,000 miles on it, an it still is sitting in my garage, running perfectly. Possibly will take the turbo setup off that an put it on the 318, or if the 5.0 don't sell, build a mean little turbo'd pony. It's expensive though.

Those kits are only 1500 right? Seems like a fair and reasonable price. Any experience with this
Kit? How about you just send me that POS TT 4.6 you have there! Lol.

Id like to know about the on 3 systems aswell. I was just looking at them the other day. The standard kit for a fox is $1588 from there, you can opt for a bigger turbo, intercooler, ect for an additional price. I imagine the sn95 systems should be similar in price, should just be slightly different piping.

I've never heard anything positive about the actual turbo itself.

I'll tell you what, If you can build and tune a mopar motor, you got something quick. The big blocks are harder to tune, but I'm gettin the hang of it. I'm currently a senior in high school, but I've been helping local motor shops, and my father at his shop. Gettin there!

I'm from Missouri, Show Me....that it can eat a 5.0.
And if you get over this way when I'm finally physically able to finish and drive my 5.0...bring it and your pink slip.

P.S. Sorry, but this thread is in the wrong forum and according to the rules I need to move it.

P.S.S. My post except for the needing to move the thread, was in fun and jest. Don't be offended, because no offense was intended.

No offense taken. I'm not saying its an unbeatable, untouchable truck, like most kids my age would, talking about their car, but it's fun. When I say eats 5.0s, I mean a stock/minor bolt on 5.0. No doubt a built 5.0 could take me, I'll be the first to admit it. It's not a rocket ship by any means, but she does run a 1/4 time of 12.9. Not the fastest, but a HUGE difference from a stock 3.9 with a turbo. It's a handful at times, but every minute is fun.

Hey, any info on the ON3 turbo systems? Been looking at them, but I only see problems so far:

1. The T5 probably wouldn't hold up, correct?
2. Stock bottom and top end on my 5.0, would it be able to take 6-9 lbs of boost?
3. How is the quality of the kit?

That's good, I didn't want you to take it the wrong way.
You do exhibit more good sense than a lot of guys your age.

The T5 holding up will depend on how hard you pound on it.
The stock bottom end should hold 400 HP or a bit more ok.
Some have pushed them to 500 HP, but that's a good bit much on a stock crank and rods.
The biggest killer is improper tuning and detonation while under boost.
The On3 kits are pretty decent overall, but it is best to use the turbo upgrade as the one that comes with the kits is prone to problems.

Look up some threads by Jay Kranz, he has the most experience of anyone else on the forums with the On3 kits.

Thanks for the info. But I usually drive my 5.0 like a rental car lol. So maybe I should build my spare t5 a little? Short throw, stronger input an output? What else? Have the synchros and bearings done?

As for the turbo, is it necessary to go with the ceramic BB turbo upgrade, or would I be fine with a better, non ceramic turbo on a hard, daily driven vehicle?

Look in the sticky threads there is some info on transmissions and building the T5 to handle lots more power.

As for your turbo question you'd be better off letting a TC company spec out what you would need, but if you are going to pound on it a lot then you better go with the best you can buy.
