Names. Love or hate?

What are your opinions on naming cars? I don't just mean actual names either, I'm talking her and him. Personally it annoys me when I see an ad on Craigslist or whatever and it is "she." It isn't a she" it is an "it" I also dislike human names. I'm all for nick names like "the beast" or "that piece of *****" but not human names like "Charlie" that's uncool.

I don't name my cars... But all cars to me are "she" or "her". Kind of a tradition isn't it? Planes, boats, cars...

I only name the muscle cars that I have, and they are all she's! My wife use to say I take better care of my cars then I do her... When I stopped putting money in the account she stopped saying that!

I understand it with boats, they have the history. I just can't seem to name them. All our cars are referred to by the year mostly. The 1931 model a is "the 31" the 1962 galaxies g code is "the 62" the 1987 mustang gt is "the 87" same for all the others, except the 1920s Nash, we don't know what year it is exactly so it is simply "the Nash." Do you refer to your car by its name to you friends and family? Has anyone ever had someone think you were talking about a person?

my nephew and i used to refer to my mustang as "mus-horse" and his dad's old dodge ram charger simply as "the ram" of course my dad used to call his 75 chrysler newport "old betsie"
i named one of my vehicles "frankenstine" because it was big, green, had been another shade of green, and under some of that maroon, and a bright red...so i thought it was fitting.

It all depends on the person,,Ive always referred to my cars as girls,,Most people that have passion for materialistic things tend to do that,,They name boats and airplanes different names why not cars..Acually me and ex wife, name mine ,when we were married,, in memory of a family member,,so there was reason for it,,and it meant alot to her,,theres alot of other stuff that can be annoying,,then peoples preference to worry about.."that piece of ****" could go either way with people or things

I call mine "he" out of habit :p My best friend, who had named her car "Sierra," thought my ride could use a name, too, so "Snake" was the first thing to pop into my head. I really don't use the name as often as she does, though. I just call it the stang lol

Well that is my name, Derek John Scott, so rather than come up with a user name, I just use my name.

I think men refer to their cars as 'her' because they aren't happy unless you spend lots of time and money on them.

^This is the way I've always been. It wasn't until I got on ME that I decided to give her a name. I did cause it seemed like most everybody else did it.

I think youll find alot of mechanics and people that work on cars seem to name them,,its just a mechanic thing i guess,,But people with boats and other items that make them happy seem to do it also

My wife and I call all front wheel drive cars girls names and all rear wheel drive cars boys names. She said we couldn't call something as bad a** as our Mustang and truck a girls name, plus she said it does have an extra part that girls don't have lol.

I laughed the first time she told me that.

Our truck's name is jaws, because he is great white silver, sounds mean, is big, and has teeth in his exhaust pipes.

Our Mustang is called either Shelby or the Stang. The person who had it before us put a bunch of Shelby parts on it trying to make it a Shelby GT.

If the car acquires a name, that's fine with me. That pretty much falls under the nickname requirement. My first car was "The Beast" because it was--a huge '70's American sedan; it was a POS that somehow knew when payday was, because that was always the day it broke down. My last car never acquired a nickname, and the Mustang really hasn't yet either.
