Any mods I could do to my 2.3L 89 mustang?

I have an 89 mustang LX 2.3L
Any performance mods I could do to get a little more acceleration? Not looking to make a race car here, just up it a bit. What options do I have, and what would the approximate cost be for parts? I could probably do most of them myself.

You're not going to go very fast with that car, just drop a v8 in the car. You are going to be wasting your time trying to do anything with that engine.

Try to find either a Merkur 2.3, turbo-bird, or turbo cougar set up.
The engine is easy to turbo charge. But look for the fuel injected models.
There are other cams for this. Racer Walsh has one of the best sites to get upgrade parts.
Make sure that you use an inter-cooler. One that mounts in front of the radiator is preferred.
Just a different cam would help, and roller cams. These parts swap in from newer models.
Also Speedway motors has some speed parts for this engine (mini-stock section).
This engine can be made to rip. I had one in a Mustang II that could take a V-8 model Camaro.
There are a lot of tricks out there.

exhaust. prob 300 for the lowend cheap *** ones. avg price for a good exhaust is like north of 500. magnaflow's got a pretty good rep.

intakes. usually about 200-300 depending on what you get. short rams are usually cheaper and cold air intakes are closer to the 300 range.

those are the utter basics...
