What should I do with my leaking gas tank?

I have a 99 Ford Mustang V6, and just found out that the gas tank is leaking, but this only happens when the tank is completely full. when the tank is 3/4 I dint see no leaks but I still could smell the gas.
Now I took it to a shop to see if they could repair it (I thought it was something simple) but they told me that I need to replace the tank because something that seals the tank is corrupted and the estimate cost is over $550 in parts and labor which I don't have now, so I thought of getting a used tank and have my friend to put it for me. ok so my question is...could the tank be fixed? or if I get a used one, and since my car is a 99 V6, would a 00, 01,02,03 or an 04 will fit? or one from a V8??? please help.

you can get a used tank but make sure it's from the same year or the same body style and any engine size tank will work in yours.

replace it for $25.00 from a junk yard.

Of course gas tanks from each generation interchange, when you look for one, that's all that would have been offered .sheesh.

the size of the motor doesn't matter, they're all the same tanks.

Have them pull a good one from a Junk Yard and do it yourself. Get the chiltons repair manule from the local auto store. Empty the tank and depresurize the fuel line. Do this by pressing the check valve on the fueil rail next to the injectors. Cover your face, up plug the battery.

drop the tank and if it,s leaking in the tank instead of the lines you could use jb weld on it. i fixed a tank once with it.

Get an aftermarket tank. Patches never hold for long. New ford tanks are way over priced.

i believe any tank from 96 to 2003 should fit and it would be best to replace over repair .

edit its actually 1994-2004
