Consider that
1. Talking about a windfall tax on big oil is a no-no.
2. Our president has put himself on record against such a tax.
3. Excuses offered on the media for increasing gas prices are (in my opinion) lame and stupid. They insult ones intelligence.
4. Virtually nothing is said by any of our elected officials with regards to price collusion, price fixing or violations of Anti Trust legislation.
5. Our domestic automobile industry has been making cars that ignore completely energy conservation. What we do see is Mustang commercials that stars a father showing his son how much fun it is to "burn out"!!! Real responsible to our nations problems, eh?
Where is responsibility with our elected officials? Where is responsibility in the oil industry? Where is responsibility in the auto industry? Is our media asking the hard questions and pushing for hard answers?
What will become of our standard of living? Is this "economic terrorism killing America, as we have known it?

Oil is a commodity. This means that it is sold strictly on the basis of price.

And you lose a lot of credibility when you make accusations without evidence. Are you trying to insult our intelligence?

A windfall tax is ridiculous, who decides when a corporation is too sucessful? Should we penalize Google and Microsoft?
The price of gasoline is affected by several things, foremost, the price of crude oil. This is set by the world market, not the oil companies or the US government. US refiners are operating at or near 100% capacity, but it is difficult to get a new refinery built in the US.
Our EPA standards for automobiles are alot higher than most of the rest of the worlds standards, if someone can afford a Mustang or a Hummer and that is what they want to drive, what kind of invasive government would outlaw that?
In the 90's when oil was trading at $10 a barrel, gas was inexpensive and the oil companies were losing money, that is how a free market functions. You are free to buy yourself a hybrid if you want to, but no one should be able to force that decision on the American public.

right on . why don't we hear about monopolys anymore?how come big oil is allowed to do what they want?what about all the oil we are stockpiling in the so called strategic reserve?taxpayers payed for it, but eventually it will be sold by a division of haliburton through no bid secret contracts that noone will know about because they are moving to du bais and wont have to pay taxes on it (like they would anyway!)Big business doesn't offer our young any good role models lately.Who wants their child to tell them "when I grow up i want to be just like Kenneth Lay!" I guess Rupert Murdoch doesn't mind whats going on so our media looks the other way.our standard of living?I'd like to know how they can say that inflation has been low when housing goes up 20 percent a year, gas the same amount, electricity has had big jumps (thanks mr. lay-*******-)unless you manage a hedge fund (avg. salary 1 billion per year) its a little tough to make it these days.

No, not at all..
Americans pay far less for fuel than do Europeans...
Liberal Environmentalist rules regulations & attitudes
are adding considerable cost to our fuels...

Of course. Look at who owns the companies and who they are friends with.
Politicians no longer look out for the best of the country, they look out for themselves.

Probably so. But I have to say that I would rather ride with them than have to put gas in my car. LOL

Yes, they are. The bottom line is it is the bottom line for all of the major industries. If it can help the bottom line then that is the propaganda that is put out there for the media to pick up and try to pass off as truth.

If you notice the quality of our education has been declining, the way to control people is to keep them ignorant and if we are ignorant we are more likely to keep buying their propaganda and paying their inflated prices.
