Good cheap moddable car?

ok heres my problem. i cant decide on what car to get. i want a car that is kind of strong to begin with but has a wide range of aftermarket parts for it. i hate jap imports/ ricers, so dont even mention them. im more into american muscle. i was looking at buying an 01 crown vic and modding it, because they have virtually the same engine as the mustangs. any other suggestions?

thanks

PS** my budget is around 4 grand

Good cheap moddable car?

define cheap car cheap upfront or cheap to drive
you can get a all out muscle car for around 3500

like a early 90's pro 5.0

or you can get a somewhat stokck muscle car thats a project for less then a grand

like a mid 70's to mid mid 80's sports car thats a rust bucket but hey your throwing fiber at everything anyway so it doesnt matter

but those are going to be in the single didget gas mpg range and may have some hard to rerplace parts

if your ok with that then there you go otherwise i really like the 3.8 from gm these things are hard to kill and in a lot of cars it gets goood mpg around 17mpg overall
like a mid to late 90's bonnieville ssei the thing is supercharged you can beef the trans up and the frontend to handel a lot of abuse(google it)
mod your own turbokit and you will have a real nice sleeper for less then 4k

or put a ssei 3.8 in a fiero(this is on my list) you can find a good body down south for around 1k and then find a wrecked bonnie for 1500 around 1k to do the swap and you will have a real fasst car

goodluck

Lots of modded crown vics in my area.
Less Neons, but they suck anyway.

Check out BMWs... even the older ones are SOOOO reliable. I've got a 1991 318i convertible and it's incredible, especially for being 15 years old!

There are BMW forums you can join online, and can toss ideas around...lots of great help there, lots of mods too.

I guess you should also check insurance quotes for the car before buying one, for example here: http://autoinsurance.undonet.com
Such an muscle car usually costs a lot to insure.
