Mustang Turning on the O/D?

I just bought a 1997 v6 ford mustang from the eBay auction. It is in excellent condition interior and exterior. After driving it for a few days I realized that the O/D was off. I believe that someone tampered with the O/D. it appears to me that the car has more miles than what I was told. This is against the law. my question is as following;

1. What agency do I report this too?

2. How do I turn on the O/D?

The OD can be engaged at the touch of a button on the shifter lever. If the OD off light is on all the time then you likely have a fault in the transmission. However you're going to be stuck with the repair since I'm sure the car was sold as-is.

If the mileage was misrepresented, *and* you can can prove it, you should contact the DMV office in your area and the one in from the place where you bought the car from.

You bought a used car which sellers usually make sure to specify "AS-IS" condition on the bill of sale. Unfortunately, I don't think there really isn't anything you can do if the car was purchased from an individual instead of a dealer. I have bought a car in the past which the odometer didn't work, but it was because a little plastic gear inside the transmission case was stripped so it wasn't being turned. This could be the case here. However, if you take the car to a licensed mechanic or a dealership and they can prove that it was tampered with then you may have a case. There are some attorneys that will give a 1 time free legal consultation. If you can get verification that there was indeed tampering you could look for one of these attorneys in your area. Before you threaten the seller with lawsuit you need to get your evidence. Best of luck to you!

If the odometer was tampered with, you report it to the State Highway Patrol, who will investigate... if it was intentionally disconnected the state attorney generals office will prosecute...that is a felony...

If it is just broken, the dealer or a speedometer/steering column specialist can get it to work, although the miles cannot be corrected....

Please be more specific. By O/D do you mean overdrive? Or are you referring to the odometer? (O/D is the abbreviation for overdrive)
