Can I paint my car outdoors in the state of Texas?

I recently started working on my '66 Mustang coupe that needed some serious attention. I have it parked in my back yard covered with a car cover but have noticed some rust starting to show on the top surfaces. I decided to sand it and applied some primer with a regular spray can. Did not like the outcome and was wondering if i can use automotive acrylic primer using a spray gun. Or do you have to do this in a air regulated room such as an auto body shop? Or should i take in to a body shop to finish the job i have already started?

You can do anything you want. But if you want a nice quality paint job, you need to be in a dust and bug-free environment. You wont find that outdoors. Even a small breeze comes up between spraying it and drying, and you've got a nice dirty paint-job.

I would take it in, that is a great car. plus you might get bugs, dust and other debris in the paint

take it to the shop and use a good primer. the kind in a can will do what they call pinhole this will show up real bad in the base coat. if you just have a garage with no paint booth then wet the floor this will keep down some of the trash
