Not surprised at this either. I think it is a smart move of fords part. It will help keep the v8 mustang around.

No thank you, but please produce them so we can keep buying V8's if we'd like.

Nah, it defeats the purpose of the muscle car. Epic fail.

cars quit being musclecars when a/c and power steering became sandard features

and the mustang was a pony car

Re: Would you buy a 4 banger Mustang?

i'm kinda wanting to find an svo mustang somewhere myself. i'd still rather have the V8 but i'd buy a turbo 4 before i'd buy a N/A V6.

I would... I love the SVOs of the past, while these engines may not be as stout I bet they'd still be a lot of fun

Re: Would you buy a 4 banger Mustang?

I dont think a 4 banger will hurt the Mustangs image~ I think currently the image is... its affordable and sporty-ish. There will always be the other stangs for those than want more power out of the box.

The mustang is not a muscle car.

I hate to break it to you but if you had your way and all mustangs were v8s... there wouldnt be any. Next time instead of laughing at the v6/4 banger owner next to you in traffic or picking on one that enjoys their car and mod's it to have fun with it... you might wish to thank them for their purchase. Without them there would be no v8 mustangs. About the only thing the V8 version does is sounds good~ and is cheaper to make hp with out of the box...

Re: Would you buy a 4 banger Mustang?

yes without a base model mustang with a small engine ford couldn't afford to make mustangs anymore.

Re: Would you buy a 4 banger Mustang?

"Would u buy a 4 banger Mustang?"

Heck yes!!!!

I had a 1980 Mustang, 140ci, manual trans. Slow, but still a neat & "RWD" car.

The original Mustang - started as a fun, inexpensive "Pony" car & sold 1 million in 1 1/2 years - a record unbroken to this day, I believe.

Shelby Mustang's started as "Sport," not muscle cars & were greatly respected on the street & track.

Muscle Mustangs/Shelbys came a little later, & possibly contributed to the DEMISE of the Mustang as many knew & loved for many, many years. Not to mention Mustang sales fell off the chart & the asian imports started to gain ground.

Sales matter.

For Mustang/Ford to survive, they need to thrive. Sales to the masses make that happen . . . . & keeps the car around for the enthusiast.

Viva a . . . . very good to excellent MPG . . . . 4-pot Mustang . . . . ASAP!

Vaya con Dios.

Re: Would you buy a 4 banger Mustang?

With the engines and transmissions we have why would you want too? I rather change a tranny out and beef up an engine, than get into a smaller more compact, lighter, gas sipping, plastic box.

I say more torque and more fun. Give me a v8 and lots of torque and 6 speed manual gear high and I will smile every time the office says Sign here Mr. ...... Plus better trany means less stops at our favorite place. The gas station.

Smile Re: Would you buy a 4 banger Mustang?

HP isn't the issue. We can put lots of it in the engine and it would peppy horse. The best thing for the transmission would be the torque. Lots of HP and Torque means lots of new reason to buy rear tires. Modding the transmission to six shooter instead of 5 would allow same offline performance but better top end for cruising down the interstate. Meaning less cash burning through the wallet and more time between fill ups.

No, but I don't guess I'd really ever buy any Mustang...

Edit: I take that back, I might buy a 4-eyed fox for an engine swap.

Right now, I would say no but if these obscene gas prices keep going up, I might reconsider
