I think it is in the middle as far as "opinion" goes. Sure, Shelby makes it that way when you buy it so it is "stock" but then again, it isn't stock because Shelby takes the GT500 you buy outside of Shelby, then they get it shipped to them to modify. If Shelby built it from start to finish, I'd say it is stock but since you have to buy the original version first, I have to agree with MrKrabby hehe

To me, a car is stock until you buy aftermarket parts for it. Shelby takes a car that's stock and turns it into the monster we all know and love. It has aftermarket parts but is a "stock" GT500. Know what I mean?

I know what you mean, but its still technically aftermarket. They completely overhaul the car. You didn't order it from Ford like that, so anything you do it it is not stock. It just depends on how you look at it.

For me it is stock until something is no longer as it was from the dealer. Example: when you replace the tires, the car is no longer stock, they might be the same tires, but they aren't the stock tires.

It is most definitely not. It is modified.

Doesn't matter how you "look" at it. Stock is what the car is stocked with. If you replace the tires with the same tires, it is still stock because those are the tires it was stocked with still.

It is pretty cut and dry.

I would say your stripe package adds at least 100+ HP at the rear wheel.

Once you run the factory gas out of the tank and go to the Shell station, its not stock.

---------- Post added at 02:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:28 PM ----------

Once you program your own radio stations, its modded.

I think that last part is subjective. I think original would be more precise, but it seems reasonable to say changing it makes it not stock- even if its the same object.

I understand it both ways, but when I think about the "stock tires" from my car, they are the exact set that came on it.

the way i look at it, like for instance to run with the tires subject. If you say "original" i think it to mean the same exact tires it had from the factory. Stock could be the "original" or it could be the replacement for the original ones (I.E. 225/55s replacing 225/55s) but the same could not be true if they were "upgrades" for instance your car came with dunlop tires, and you upgraded them to nitto or sunimoto or w/e. they may still be the same size, however they are not the original or stock. they would be aftermarket. Its a very thin and confusing line for a topic of conversation

Why would you go to Shell? Their gas is horrible. Go to Chevron

Esso is good , the tiger in the tank been using it for years , never had a problem it's best to go to a gas station that has lots of customers that way the gas is always fresh.

Been going to Arco/Thrifty for 45 years never a problem. And I keep my cars a long time. Recently sold to Tesoro/USA who also owns Shell. No difference in performance or MPG.

OK, I can see this is getting way out of hand...i'll do an update to the definition of mod. A true mod is anything that effects performance that was added to the car after it's initial construction and delivery. There are performance mods (ie. Superchargers, tunes, throttle bodies), and visual mods (ie. Window tint, side scopes..) I only hope that makes sense.

Window tint affects performance and adds weight.

---------- Post added at 06:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:29 PM ----------

...however, once you get a bunch of miles on the car and wear the coating off the shifter, that could be considered performance-enhancing.
