So just how much do you love your Fox?

So at the moment I own a 2009 mustang but the sad part is that it came with a 4.0 and automatic transmission. Not really the easiest car to work on. By the end of the summer i should have enough to go out and buy a 5.0, 5 speed fox body mustang. I want one that runs and would be a fun project car to work on for a quite a few months until i get the thing running like new. I know, why give up a 2009 car for one thats over 20 years old? Well because its what i want. I want a car that i can build up with my own hands (mostly) and be proud of. Build a car the way i really want to you know? I just want to know how everyone here feels about their fox body mustang. What you guys love about them and the problems that you face with an older model mustang . Or if anyone who has owned more than one mustang wants to tell me how their fox compared. Feel free to post pics cause i would love to see some mustangs from these years that have actually been taken care of unlike most of the ones i see driving around.

Really can't go wrong with a notch or hatch. All depends on what you want and like. I love mine and the fact that performance parts are readily available and fairly inexpensive compared to the new ones.

As long as you stay 87 and newer, you shouldn't have problems finding any new interior pieces, or replacement pieces, my 86 is challenging to get some parts for.

Yeah im looking for a 87-93 hatchback. For some reason the hatch just reminds me of the fastbacks in a way and it has a little more space in the back.

Live up in North Georgia but only problem is i have to save up for the car first. Kind of low on cash right now and it would probably be around late august when id be able to afford it. Right car and price that im looking for though.

I have an 01 gt 03 v6 and 93 fox super fun to drive . The biggest thing is with an older car is things can go wrong at random. 20 yr old parts.. and you lose safety features.. airbags ect...

What are some of the most common problems that come up? Like interior malfunctions as well as in the engine bay.

I just got off my night job and was driving home when I pulled up behind a car transport at the signal. I looked up and saw a beautiful four-eyed fox looking down at me. Followed the transport to the local Ford dealership a few blocks away and waited for them to open. Three hours later I was driving home in a 1985 Mustang GT, black with the grey interior and a 5-speed at a cost of $12,700. It was my daily driver off and on until 2000 when I got the bug for another one, so off I went to the same Ford dealership. A few hours later I was signing the paperwork on a white 2000 GT, 5-speed with leather interior. When I started to sign the paperwork on the deal, I started having second thoughts on parting with the 85 at their offer of $2,400. Decided to remove the old Mustang from the deal and had the 2000 delivered to my house. I still have both Mustangs and just recently replaced the headlights on the 85. I put on a fresh coat of paint last year and am contemplating what I want to do with the motor. The original motor is all stock as well as the rest of the car but does have some leaking problems.. I grew up racing my best friend who had a 63 Ford Sprint with a 260 four-speed. Always loved that car but the old Fox does some of the same things for me. Now if I can just continue to get past the smog police every two years out here in southern Cal.. who want me to non-op it.. With 95,000 on the clock, it doesn't get driven much anyway.. yep I'm old but intend to drive the Mustangs until they take my driver's license.. Kind of thinking about a 2014... just need to figure out how to stretch the garage a bit..

That's awesome! Wish I could've bought my 86 new, then it would be in a little better shape. The 85-86's are my favorite, though I like all foxes. I'm sure you're glad you kept the 85. Good luck on stretching the garage!

Well little rough cosmetically. But considering everybody has told me to get rid of you could say I love it. Replaced ton as far as mechanics. My wiper motor is bad as well. I just put rain x on drive wo and arm sticking up a little and prey lol. Speedo was inaccurate when got then cable fell out so stopped working. New clutch and trans so no problems now. Common problems shock tower rot..mine has that as well in passenger side. I'm keeping as is hoping doesn't snap untill looong time from now can afford a roller. Prob be waste of money to try to fix, body work and paint. I like the lx notches...lighter faster
