Inspection

I notice a lot of people choose o/r mid pipes and id like one but beed to pass inspection. I'm just curious how does everyone 1996 years and up pass inspection without cats?? Any other way besides swapping midpipes back to stock before inspection?

You don't, you swap it out when its time for inspection/smog. I live in Cali and have an O/R Prochamber i just put on. In 2 years when its time for smog i'll just put it on a lift and put the stock mid pipe back on.

It really depends on how strict your emissions testing is. If there's a visual inspection you'll have to swap back and forth, if not then a tune can take care of it.

When we used to have inspections here, my dad had a mechanic buddy who gutted his cats and fitted straight pipe, so he didn't have real cats but he passed visual, then he would have it tuned for inspection, and tune it back after

The thing that gets most people is the visual. You can pass the sniff test perfectly clean and still fail because of the visual, which completely takes away the point from what smogging a car is about.

At least cali is though on smog and doesn't have a full vehicle inspection every year like other states, i would definetly fail each year. (No front plate, tinted headlights, tinted tail lights, o/r exhaust)

Depends on your state. Privately operated inspection stations are always "negotiable".

You can get an off road pipe and cut out sections got cats and put in gutted cats. That's what I'm doing. The car came with an o/r h and I'm having this guy gut cats I brought him and weld them in.

Well need an inspection sometime the next two weeks! Anybody know if ill pass inspection? Have an offroad x but have mil eliminators and doesn't throw a code. I dont have $$$ for high flows right now being that I ran up my credit card and other spendable money for college classes and outrageous prices of $175 per school book.
I've had contradicting info that one person says only the cel will cause me not to pass and others say they visually check for cats too. Anyone TRULY know for nc? I dont want to go and fail inspection. Thanks

Look up your state's inspection requirements or all the DMV/MVC and ask them directly.

For OBDII cars most states will just plug in through the port and let the computer tell them if the emissions system is present/working. As far as a visual, if they do anything it'll be to check for cats. NJ, where I live, used to be a pain in the dick about inspection, due to budget cuts and also huge *** lines at the inspetion lanes they now just do a simple cat check via a camera they drive over unless the car is OBDI and then you have to get a sniffer.

My advice to you:

-find out what the CEL is on for
-swap in a stock pipe from a buddy if you don't have yours because they almost certainly will check visually for cats.

Also, stop paying $175 per book new or even used at the college book store. Use the interwebs, look for previous editions of the books you need, Amazon/Ebay/Half.com are great resources for this. My best score ever was a $100+ book for under $1 plus shipping. It was 3 editions previous to the current edition and the only differences were a few sentences here and there, the information was the same. Generally I looked for the previous book edition though which is usually half the price or even less.

I have no cel because of my mil eliminators.

And I usually wouldnt buy my school books from school, they just kind of screwed me saying I couldnt register until I pay $450 for past classes so I wait a few weeks to save up the money and once I saved up the money they said I dont owe any money so I was like okay then....thanks for making me wait so long to register and had to the day before classes start and had to buy the books there in order to have them on time. Geez lol

If you have your grades from your last classes then you don't owe any money, they won't send them to you if you do. Next time they pull that **** tell them to blow it out their *** or elevate it up to the next person in charge.
