Who’s winning the pony car wars?

In May 2013, the Ford Mustang appears to be the victor, as its 8797 deliveries trump the 7929 Chevrolet Camaros and 5537 Dodge Challengers sold last month.

What makes this even more astounding is that the Mustang is still selling this good on basically a 10 year old platform.

This doesnt bode well for the Camaro & Challenger when the 2015 Mustang rolls out!!

That's actually quite surprising. Go Mustang!

Man, I know the Camaro is a classic and it's got everything to classify it as a pony car, but I feel like the 5th gen 'Maro is just a cheap, fast, "bad*ss" car (to the average person). By that I mean, its huge wheel wells welcomes rims and rubber-band tires of all sizes (if not, just lift it a little). It's a coupe with a mean exterior that everyone loves (a real chick-magnet too). Hopefully by now you'll catch on to what audience I'm talking about (don't get me wrong, there are Mustang owners like this out there too, but this is all I see in Camaros lately).

On the other hand, when I think "Mustang," I think of two words. Performance and community. We buy Mustangs for that V8 growl, to track them, to modify them, whatever your thing is. I've only been in the Mustang scene for about a year now and the community and attitude of Mustang owners around the world is amazing, it's truly a great thing to be a part of. We make a great team who seems to share the same interests. Perfect thread for what I mean here.

I can't say much for Dodge, never really found an interest in it. I do have respect for the Challenger though, very nice car. Dodge just needs to step their performance game up a little.

Where I live here in Daytona, there doesn't seem to be much competition amongst pony car and/or muscle car drivers. We all know why we own these cars, even with gas prices as high as they are. I'll always park next to a Camaro or Challenger, vice versa. Just got into a great conversation with a guy driving a restored 70's El Camino this afternoon. Nothing but mutual respect.

I don't find challenger/camaro owners to be all that respectful here where I live. Yes I am going to stereotype. 90% of the cars are owned by one group of people. Lot of them running 20-22" rims. They don't have respect.

Where I live other mustang drivers regardless of race might have a little fun towards each other but there is always that smile and wave/head nod.

The other group gets mad at how loud and deep my car is, how much faster it is, etc. They are the ones to blow past me at 80+ in a 40 because I normal driving beat them off the line....
