Should I put my dream on hold?

Hey everyone, I'm a 20 year old student dreaming of driving a 05-09 GT. Problem is, being a student with a part-time job, all I can conceivably muster is ~11-12k, and that's if I really cut back for a few months.

Ignoring a random amazing deal that I may or may not be able to find, do you guys think there's any chance of me finding a well kept 'stang with decent miles for that price? If so, where should I be looking besides craigslist and autotrader?

Edit: Sorry, new to the forum and I just noticed the tech-only rule. Any mods mind moving this?

Just keep saving man, practice discipline. You'll have plenty of $ for it with saving and patience and the value will drop some and become affordable. I waited a little over a year to get my 2002 gt stang with only 28k on it. Just be patient and you'll find a good deal. And its so much better paying in full and having no interest or monthly payments to deal with.

Honestly wait until you are out of school. If you have a vehicle now just keep driving it until you get out and get a steady job. Enjoy your time in college without adding more stress with a car note.

I don't think you'll find one with low miles at that price, but who knows, deals are out there.

The thing is, due to weird circumstances, I'm going to be giving my current car to my sister in a month or two, so I'm going to be needing a new car anyway. If I don't get what I want right now, I'll have to get something else, which will delay the GT for a lot longer.

I might have to lower my sights to a v6 with some miles on it, by what you guys are saying. Do you think I'd be able to get one of those in my price range? It's going to be a daily driver so I don't need the power, and I can work towards a nice v8 in the future.

You can easily get a nice gt in the sn95 model for that range or even older 4v's in that price range.

I think you can definitely get a v6 in your price range. Check them out. You also don't want to buy a POS and then have issues costing you more money. Mustangs are solid cars.

Well you should be able to get a decent 05-09 V6 for around that. Have you considered getting a NewEdge GT?

I've seen them with decent miles going for around 10-12. I'd also suggest if you're going to go with an S197 get an 06 or newer if you can. The 05 was very hit and miss as far as build quality goes. Also check out the forums, and I also I like cars.com a deal will show up just be patient.

I don't quite like how the stock NE's look. They're starting to grow on me so I might check back in a few years, but currently the S197's do a lot more for me.

I'd take 2011+ or a 2003-2004 new edge long before the 05-09 bland look! Might just be me but my two favorite mustang styles are the 2011-2012 5.0 and then 03/04 termi.

The 05-09 with its flat boring body looks plain compared to the extremely curvy and amazing 2010+ and the new edge have a very aggressive look.

Lol I liked the body style until the 2010 came out. Until the 2010 body style I loved the termi the best though. I just like the 2011 more. The old school stangs were curvy like the 2010 body style and I have always wanted a 1969 boss 429.

I get what your saying. It is kind of bland stock but I think if you add a cowel and do something's to it they look great!

My personal opinion is they all have their own look and all look great to me. But all can also be enhanced.

100% with you. With a lot of exterior mods they can look good. I would say 95% of them I see in Cincinnati have stock exteriors and look boring. If we are talking stock for stock though the 05-09 are down near the bottom of my list for looking good. Lol. Guy who lives down the private drive from me has one and he gives me death glares when I drive by. Must be his parents have an old school mustang of some kind. I haven't gotten to talk to them yet but I definitely want to see it. His 05-09 I could careless about hahah.

Please keep in mind these are personal opinions. I was just weighing in I'd take a good new edge before an 05-09 any day stock for stock.

Well if the price is that low and you will have enough cash left over to pay for some one to inspect the car (get a professional) and if it is a good deal you can fly up here and drive it back or ship it for ~1000 and you would still be money ahead.

Just saying there are options to get what you want.

Yeah like most people are saying either get a new edge GT or wait and get a 10-14 model
I think out of all mustangs stock the 94-98 and 05-09 models were the worst.. And 74's lol
But you can make them all look good.
10-14 models come nice already lol
The 05-09 models look kinda girly to me in the rear. But everyone has there own opinions.

---------- Post added at 01:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:15 PM ----------

Save until you finish college and get a termi!

Keep in mind they are all personal opinions, stick to your gut and pick the one your heart is set on. My opinion would be 05-09 or 13-14 .... 11 - 12 look like a chubby corvette that had one too many twinkies lol j/k
