Radar Detector mount?

Were do you guys have your radars mounted? I was thinking about trying to mount it up high, attached to my sun visor? Would that be a good spot? Thanks Guys!

I mounted mine in the center of the windshield just above the dash. Didn't want the cord dangling from nearly the headliner down to the 12 volt outlet

Just go with what you think suits you well.

I didn't put it all way down because it just didn't make sense if the radar couldn't see out my rear window.
I don't know. So I just usually put it in middle or right under the rear mirror.
Other thing, since whenever I go over hills. I wondered "if its low. Wouldn't it give me less time to react if radar can't see upper littler bit?"

I spent few hours over this dumb desicison. Wondering wherever to put radar detector, lol..... In the end. Just go with what suits you best.

Something to keep in mind is the higher the detector is positioned, the earlier you'll be warned for RADAR. Lower positions work best for LIDAR but considering you've most likely been caught for speeding if it goes off for laser, I chose to mount my V1 high.

I have a beltronics 955. Had it for about 5 years and have yet to have a single complaint.

Bug off the dome light power and run the power line under the headliner and pop it out by the rearview mirror. Hook up to radar detector mounted up there with the suction cups. Clean, out of the way, you can grab it and throw it under the seat real quick with no futzing with wires if you do get stopped for something so the cop doesn't see it and automatically give you a ticket for having one.

+1 what he said. I'm currently in the market for one and I have no idea of what radar is good and what is junk.

Its mounted like I describe if you don't see a power cord. You hide the wire behind a piece of interior trim.

Sorry didn't see that post. Ok. But then I'm out my dome lights? Or they will still turn on and off?

Here is a novel idea and it will save you some money. Don't SPEED and you won't NEED a radar detector.

No you just bug off the dome light power, everything still works. It would be like putting a splitter on a wall out let in your house and then plugging the radar detector power into it and a lamp into the other.

Kind of have to agree with this. When I do floor it I'm in an area I know and know that cops are 99% not going to be around. I don't do 70-80mph on back roads and on the highways in NJ at least you can do 90 in the left lane because so is everyone else. Honestly if you aren't doing 100+ on the parkway when there is a lot of traffic around you aren't getting pulled over...

Here is an idea, buy a fast car but dont go fast in it. Buy a boat but paddle dont use the motor. Buy a gun but display it, don't shoot it. It's kinda hard to speed in a V6, I'm sure that's why you don't. Why don't you get back to not enjoying your car on the back roads and let me get back to enjoying my car. Thx for lookin out for me though.

Ok. I seen some mounts too that go great with a rear view mirror so you don't use suction cups on the windshield. I am going to look up some tutorials on how to do it. Thx for your help sir.

It's actually kinda easy. 300 hp stock aint nothing to sneeze about...same amount of HP as last years GT. pretty dam good especially for a 6'er. But you do prove a good point.

Truth, and some cops can be dicks as I'm sure you are well aware. Obviously not saying you just that I'm sure you see stuff and there are ******** in any profession...

I think the biggest thing is don't drive like a prick. Blasting up to 120+ or whatever on an empty back road is one thing. The ******-canoes who speed and weave in and out of traffic and tailgate me even when I'm doing 60 in a 50 zone because they have somewhere THAT important to be that they need to go 25 over... And it isn't just ppl in sports cars either.

No 300 hp isn't anything to sneeze at but it is pretty commonplace these days. With that said you don't even need 150hp to get pulled over doing 100mph on the highway.

Good to know! Haha I'm pretty sure my 2000 sixxer has around 220hp. I have enough powder to get stopped but, not enough to have some fun and get swirly :/

Radar detectors in many cases will not help you and they give people a false sense of security. They work only if the officers radar unit is emitting the radar beam. As a certified radar and lidar operator I can tell you, radar detectors help sometimes, however I stop motorists all the time for speeding infractions that have radar detectors. I'll explain why radar detectors can be a waste of money and are not full proof.

When I run stationary radar, I leave my handheld radar unit powered on however its in a standby mode. This standby mode prevents the radar beam from emitting. Your traveling down the road, approaching my stationary location with your radar detector on and scanning. Remember, my radar unit is not emitting a beam because its in standby mode so your radar detector is not beeping and warning you.

I see you approaching me , pull the trigger to the radar unit and now the unit is emitting the radar beam. I now instantly have a digital readout of your speed and by the time your radar detector beeps, your already done for. Got you speeding.

No radar detector is going to save you ALL THE TIME, but I would like to lower my percentage of getting pulled over when I am speeding. Just because people want radar detectors doesn't mean we are speeding everywhere we go. If its 35 I go 35-40 and so on and so forth. But there are times on the highway in the early morning I would like to do more than just 70 and that's when the cops are out.

I hear ya. Lol Typically when using moving radar we will leave the radar unit on, however stationary mode, most of my co workers leave the unit off until we see a motorist approaching. Lol

Yeah this is the experience I had when I got pulled over in my 91 doing I think like 85mph in a 65 zone in DE. Was 19, thought I was totally protected by my crazy *** radar detector. Damn thing went off after I already went by the cop and he shot me going away from him lol. For that reason I have never dropped the money on another one. I just rarely speed and like I said when I do its a quick blast and then back to the speed limit or the flow of traffic.

So pretty much a radar detector is useful if there are cars ahead of you getting beamed at before you.. if you're the only car on the road then it's not as useful..

You got it boss. The lead car gets caught in the radar beam first.
