trying to make my mustang louder

I have a 2010 mustang gt 4.6. I have installed borla s type kit. I like the borla sound but I am looking for more growl when just idling. Any ideas?

I went to a performance shop and they said to add an x pipe. I installed the x pipe plus 44 flowmasters. A bit louder but not loud enough.

Get an o/r h pipe, will make it louder and sound aggressive, then get some electric cutouts installed. Bam, open headers with the push of a button.

Make sure to keep the stock midpipe for when its time to smog.

Would I have to dyno tune it if I change the midpipe?

Nope. Not even flash tune. Only thing is if you go catless you'll throw a cel that a hand held tuner can turn off

I have the same setup as you. Did you buy just the axle-backs or the whole cat-back system?

Why wouldn't you recommend it. He wants louder. Well it'll be louder also Adds more power.

I've seen a ton of threads ab 'going catless' lately and it's just unappealing to me, all of the fines and inspection problems plus my stang is my DD... Not for me.

my STANG is my dd as well. I'm going o/r x as soon as I get the money. And as long as you want loud and and more hp. Then I think that it is for you. (Not you in general). O/r x-pipe would be ideal for the op because he wants louder.

Ok didnt see the catless is not an option post... I hear Flowmaster Outlaw is louder than most others.

Pipes Bomb makes one that's catback and its pretty raw and loud.

One thing is high flow cats.

There's only so much you can make an exhaust sound loud. And even idle without cats isn't really loud.

One option is Ghost Cam tune that gives you a cam type lop.

If all else fails and its still not loud enough... Add a system in your trunk and run a microphone to your exhaust and crank up the volume. I don't do sound systems ever in my car so I'm not good with specs etc... But maybe a 1000 watt amp would work wonders

Yeah I think if idle exhaust note is what the OP is after he just needs a ghost cam tune.

Look into that cuz it does essentially partially apply throttle while your idling and adjusts timing so you sound like you have a crammed built motor... Even though you don't.

If he changes to high-flow cats, he'd be legal and could probably get away without tuning. Does anyone know how much louder high-flows would be over stock?

Unless his cats go bad and need to be replaced, any aftermarket catalytic converter installation is illegal by federal law. Just FYI. I don't really see the point in "high flow" cats... Straight pipes or cats.

High flow cats will still more than likely trigger a CEL so it would still need a tune.

Clips don't do them justice. Lookup a local shop or club. Never go by clop
