Should i get v6 or GT?

I am currently looking at buying my second car ( First car is 00' Honda CR-V).

I am looking at 00'-03' and was wondering whether I should get v6 or GT?
Is it worth the extra money?
Is it much more of a gas hog?

Btw I don't plan on racing or anything just commuting and I plan on customizing it and getting hands on with it since I've started to do the same with my current car.

You say now that you aren't going to race it, but once you get a mustang you will get a thirst for power... I say get the GT, it's really only 2-3k difference between the v6 and the GT. If it's all highway you can get low to mid 20s mpg wise. And you will love the sound.

Thanks !
Low 20s mpg actually isn't that bad considering my current car averages 20mpg.
Btw would I be able to find a decent 00'-02' gt for under 5k? I live in New Jersey

You could probably find one with 60-80k miles for that price... But price depends on the area, I live in Cali where everything is more expensive, so you could probably get one for cheaper.... I got my 2001 Bullitt with 138k for $7800 from a dealer. If you go private party you could definitely get a GT for that price.

I got 28-29 mpg on the highway in my GT. I actually get better gas mileage in my gt then i did with my old sixxer. I would get a GT if you get rhe v6 you're going to want a GT sooner or later anyways.

im the only reverse to that lol...i sold my GT for a v6

driving an hour to school even with the 5 speed my GT ate my wallet up for gas. My v6 gets over 300 to a tank so i'm a lot happier. plus i don't drag race...use to but got out of it. so i don't need the extra 70 hp

What? My GT got 270-290/tank even with my 4.10s.

Anyway.. My vote is for GT!

when i say over 300 that's dipped up to 330 all hwy...that's still a big difference when it comes to mileage if that's what the guy does alot. i don't hate the GT i loved having it. i'll probably buy another one down the road as a weekend car, but for my DD i don't foresee my sixxer ever leaving my stable.

You won't regret the GT.. I looked at 05-09 v6's for the longest time and ended up paying $8k for my 03 GT with 72k miles. Haven't regretted it once!

GT with stock 3.27 gears will get 24-26 mpg highway all day long if you keep it at 70mph or less, they also take regular fuel if you are on a budget. They are also MUCH MORE RELIABLE than the 3.8L. I know the newer 3.8Ls are pretty good but not like the 4.6L.

But if you are on a serious budget and worried about gas mileage and looking at a 6 cyl vs a V8 stang. Maybe look at something else that is still "sporty" but gets better mileage? A 4 banger 5 speed 1st Generation Mazda 6 fits this bill and gets 35mpg highway and looks great doing it AND you can fit 4 ppl no issue. And Mazda the Mazda 6 is simply a re-skinned Ford so you are staying in the family.

I mean I literally see no point to having a V6 and I'm not bashing all the ppl on this board who have one. If you are looking at a V6 previous to 2011 you are ONLY looking at it because you like the looks and can't afford the gas/insurance/upfront cost of the V8. In this instance, as I said there are MUCH more utilitarian options that get MUCH better mileage and also look great.

Not worth the price. If you want a V8 buy a V8. Where the swap makes sense is in foxbody land where you run with the cleanest body you can find. If that happens to be a 4 banger you get it and buy a beat to hell V8 donor and swap it all over.

Lol I wasn't telling him to do a swap I was just laughing at the pic.

And OP I think you should get a GT

I saw plenty of nice cars when I was shopping around. Saw lots of stangs and lots of camaros

I passed on all of them til I found one with a v8
N I'm def a happy camper

Mpg isn't that bad, but then again I've never owned a vehicle with "bad" mpg
It is what it is I guess lol

Good luck though

If you are looking to buy an older Mustang, get the gt. Even then you will be running about the same horsepower as a lot of modern 4 cylinders make. Just saying.............
