New ride

Been looking for a new GT, I've been wanting a upgrade from my 6. What do you guys think I could get a 01-04 GT or with under or around 100k? I know this isn't 2005+ forums but maybe add in what you think I could get for a 2005-2006 GT also. I want it to be it good shape inside. Let me know what you think, and how you think I'd feel switching to a GT. Thanks!

Get a late 01-04 or just an 02-04 gt. A few improvements over the 99-early 01. Pricing depends on your area.

I know texas gets things a lot cheaper. i got my premium gt a little over a year ago with 27k for 10k and was valued a a good bit more by the bank for my area at the time so I got a good deal. I wouldnt pay anymore than 10 for a gt when you can get a 4v for a few thousand more. Id guess for your area about 7-8k for one in good condition.

Maybe it's a bad time of the year then. It's hard find ones in good shape for that amount that are a good color AND manual.

One with 27k miles on it goes for like 14-16k :\

I live in north texas, and have a buddy about to put a pretty nice 01gt on the market. Full exhaust stage 3 cams supporting mods and tuned by boost in Amarillo... It's an auto though :/ 3500 stall and 4.10s..

But yeah dude ive seen sooooo many low mileaged 99-09 GTs around here for sell for really good prices. My brother picked up a cleeeeaaaan 05 gt for $13k with 58,xxx miles. I picked up my 03 gt for $6k

Brother man...i was YOU this time last year, well except for the already having a mustang lol. I used cars.com (which is essentially the DMN/Star Telegram auto classifieds), autotrader, carmax, and even cargurus before literally stumbling across mine in Grand Prairie.
Bottom line? 2004 GT Manual, stock except the flowmasters, clean inside, bad alt that lasted 8 more months, 88k on the clock. All in (taxes, paperwork, paternity test etc...) for $6200 flat.
Deals are out there, just have the patience bro. I think you'll love the 'upgrade'. Good luck in your search

I will start looking out there then. Do you think they are cheaper because the cars don't last as long out there (due to all the dust/dirt stirred up)?

That's a hella good deal. I will keep waiting then. The best deal I've seen so far is a 04 GT for 8375 that had 98k. It sold pretty fast before I could test drive. Thanks for the input.

Jesus that's so low. Where at? I looked at Laredo and there aren't hardly any stangs for sale there.

I was looking to finance so I've only been looking from dealers. Hmm

All from people or dealers? Cuz I mean 99-04 gt's in the metroplex that have around 130-150k are 6-7.5k in price.. From dealers. Did you guys pay cash for them all or what'd you do?

Got mine from La Silla auto in GP, they have a competitor literally next door that had a gorgeous clean red '04 with 10k more miles for the same damn price as mine! ARRRGH if only i coulda waited another week!

The major dealers like Vandergriff and Mac Churchill were a bunch of bait-n-switchers, so im glad i found this small shop. Honestly, he was really cool to negotiate and deal with, even spotted me a current inspection. Anyways, bought it outright cuz the downfall with smaller shops is insane financing options.

Ah, I have noticed that red and white are always cheaper, I wonder why? I personally don't want those colors. Maybe I'm not the only one. I had seen some at vandergriff, but not Churchill. Do they tell you and price then raise it? GP isn't all that far from here so maybe I am just having bad luck. I'm using like 4 diff car sites (cars.com, autotrader, truecar, kbb, etc.) but have yet to see these good deals.

I'm scared of getting one with mods because its most likely been abused as a GT. Even being abused, are these motors still super reliable? Should that be a huge factor when buying?

It took me well over a year of constant searching to find one. Be patient and you'll love the difference between v6 and v8.

Yeah it's looking like that's about how long it'll take me lol. Sucks, even tho it's a good thing to save more for the down payment. Seems like all the good deals are for colors like orange, white, red, etc. Black in particular goes for a lot more it seems.

Both Vandergriff and Churchill advertised a GT, i called during the week and setup a saturday appt, called the DAY OF appt to confirm only to get down there and they wanna sell me a used corolla or some other pos, because (Mac Churchill) just sold the car or (Vandergriff) suddenly found a problem with emissions and it wouldn't pass, but they were happy to get me into a hyundai. Only consistency between the two was i knew what the prices should be, and told them as much as they were in the 4-5 grand range for a visibly tore up GT with 150k miles.Yeah, i was born yesterday...

As for the reliability, every thing ive seen/heard/read about these 4.6L's is they are crazy solid engines, and mine's no different. Thing is strong, man (knock on wood lol), and with regular maintenance i'm hoping to get another 100k outta her, if not more.

Anyhoo, took me about 2-3 months to get mine, so hopefully you wont be searching too long. You might see prices drop some as we get into winter, i got mine in late November.

I remember when I was looking to get mine. I saw a 99GT with a ton of aftermarket mods with about 138k on it. I was pretty interested, my dad didn't want me to get one that had all those mods on it cause we won't know if it was abused or not (had 4.10s, no one gets 4.10s and doesn't abuse it). So he did some quick internet searching and found a 2001 Bullitt for sale, that weekend we went to look at it. The next weekend I drove it home.

That's exactly what I'm scared of. I seem to be pretty picky :\

Awesome, that's what I figured. Prices for the mustangs hopefully will drop for the winter. Do you know when they will be picking back up? I figure about march prolly. Going to try and score one between now and then hopefully. I could definitely see those dealers doing that crap tho, it doesn't surprise me.

Oh and one more question, did y'all's insurance spike? I'm in a v6 stang now, idk if anyone went from 6 to 8 or not but was wondering what the insurance would jump too. I'm 20 nearing 21 and have a 3.4 college gpa (I say this cuz they give discounts for bein over 3.0) and of course a male. What you think it will spike up to?

Unless a radical departure from the norm has happened, the absolute worst insurance demographic is single/male/under 25. As i got my GT a little bit past age 25 (cough), plus being married and having a multi-car discount, full coverage w/ SF is about $35/month. I highly doubt you'll get that rate as a standalone, i also doubt you'll see no change in your current rate. What i don't doubt is shopping around for something better if your current ins spikes. I was with Amica some years back, and they were noticeably cheaper than SF/Allstate/Progressive etc....if I may ask, what are you paying now?

Like with everything, YMMV lol

I also share your presumptions re: march mustang madness. These things have enormous power, and i dunno if you had to drive much in yesterdays tsunami lol but my azz was all over the place just trying to drive to the wet conditions. OK, bit of an exaggeration, but 1-2-3 was really feathering the gas to prevent constant fishtailing. Point is, some either get tired of trying to drive these things in bad weather, some have 'winter cars' lol. I can see why ppl trade them in. Not me, so nyahhh :p

Found a couple on autotrader...dunno what particulars you like other than black and GT lol:

Plus a nice looking one with a Salvage title...

You'll get there bud, one day

I bought my 03 cobra at 22. It was $10/month more than my 02v6 that I had just sold. Single at the time, etc etc.
