Shooting flames from exaust???

So this guy with a riced out civic put a video up of him shooting flames from exaust and I'm just curious about a couple things?

Why is it doing this?
Isn't it bad for your engine
Does any car with an off road and muffler deletes do this?
Can cars with dual exaust do it?
And would it be bad?

Pretty much its a combustion inside your exhaust. You will see it in turbocharged cars with an anti-lag system. And yes its not the safest thing to be doing to your car, and if you have cats say good bye to them.

Regular cars will do it ocasionally and its slightly different, thats a back fire... But turbo-anti lag systems do it all the freakin time. The anti lag systems that do it is a literal combustion inside your exhaust, designed to keep the turbo spooled when you change gears.

hey Luna, did it look controlled. They do make exhaust flame kits for cars, trucks and motorcycles. He could have had one of those put on.... make his civic seem... tougher..... lol

they do sell kits to make it do this, its like a spark plug in you exhaust that ignites the unburned fuel in the exhaust

It doesn't even need an anti-lag setup to shoot flames. My buddie's WRX will do it and he had just a tune and full exhaust. It's caused by the extra fuel getting dumped into the exhaust and igniting. The only problem that I've ever seen is your muffler catching on fire, which happened to another buddy on his STI.

You install spark plugs on a manual switch and run the car a little rich. Hit the switch and boom, afterburners. Until the guy you didn't see pull up behind you sues you for melting the front end of his car and vehicular assault.

Yea my buddy is trying to do it with his turbo integra, it's tuned so he runs it very lean and uses the two step he gets it to back fire pretty loud but no flames yet

Sounds pretty pointless at the risk of ruining his car.

no it was a pooping flame. Would getting a kit or making my own be a little ricey you think? It would be a cool little feature for when I'm showing off my car

Agreed.

If you want flames shooting out of your exhaust just do a hot wing challenge somewhere and wait till the evening or the next morning.

edit: And make sure you keep a pack of baby wipes by the toilet.

Haha so apparently it's bad if our cars aren't "pooping flames.." Must mean his car is just digesting his gasoline properly

My Cobra does it when I want to. It runs a touch on the rich side and with the WOT box I can cut timing and continue to dump fuel. Just let off the gas and you get a nice backfire with flames. It will also wake up any cops in the area...

I love flames shooting from the tail pipes especially in old school muscle cars! Not rice at all IMO!
