You can replace the ashtray door but that's it, the rest of it is all 1 piece molded together. I'd get a 98 center console for cupholders or get an 01-04 for functional cupholders but you have to paint the 01-04 because it won't match earlier interior colors.

There are always plenty of consoles on the evilbays and the classifieds sections of the bigger Mustang forums.

You can actually put the newer consoles in a 97 the ones with cupholders? That would be great

The 94-98 consoles are identical except the 98s have cupholders. The 99-00s are identical to the 98s except for the colors being different. The 01-04s will leave a little gap in the back that the others don't have because the floor pans are different in those years. It still bolts in the same, just a cosmetic thing that nobody will ever see unless you have passengers in the back. If you regularly have ppl in the back of your Mustang you are doing it wrong.

Here is the gap I'm talking about

This is the guy going into my 98, I just have to wait till it warms back up because painting it in 30 degree weather=no.

No, there are no new ones. You need to buy a good used one. I got that one from a wrecked 01 and its mint.

In my area I see guys selling center consoles from SN95's and New Edges alot on craigslist. Not to mention the sea of Stangs at the local junkyards too. Those would he the first places I would check, and if not, then ebay or corral.net, etc..etc...

Hey dude, do you remember exactly what spray you used because I still need to do mine and that looks very good. Any special stuff to prep it or just a good dawn/water and a good scrubbing? How has it held up? I'm going to swap the armrest pad from my console so I might not paint that but that does look really good.

And that gap in the back is a VERY small price to pay for a cupholder that actually works lol.

I picked up a black duplicate spray paint it's the vinyl and carpet one I went for the flat black because they high-gloss black was little too shiny for me. My prep was a little bit of soap and water

Duplicolor? From one of the box stores like Autozone or wherever? Again, looks great, how long ago and how is it holding up? I only want to do this once and there was a reason I swapped my entire interior to black vs painting it.

Gotcha. Good to know. Looking forward to having a coffee on the way to work and not worrying about launching it into the back of the car on a hard 2nd gear shift lol. Or having to hold it going around a corner...

Well the rubber boot is actually more durable IME but it looks like hell. I'm getting the Redline stuff anyway so it matches the rest of my interior. The stock shifter boot is meh at best as well so I'll be replacing that too. Just not sure if I want to do straight black or go for a black/blue theme to match the outside of the car. Kind of like the clean OEM straight up black. I even de-billeted the interior from the PO when I got the car. I'm probably in the minority but I do not like billtet. The shifter ring is ok but the knobs/switches/locks/whatever else all billeted out... I dunno looks tacky to me.

PVC black leather? Beware cheap ebay special seats. I once wasted $300 on crap ebay seats.

Looked them up on ebay... I really do hope they turn out for you. Did they come with the brackets and everything? I'm guessing no but I could be wrong.

I'm sorry I sound so much like a downer but seriously if I had to bet I'd bet you are now out $140 on junk seats from past dealings I've had with no-name ebay seats.

@OP, I have a black center console that was out of a totalled 95 Cobra, been trying to sell it for a while now, PM me if youre interested.

Although I will say the later center consoles are much better designs. My friend's '03 center console was amazing compared to the 98 just because the freaking cupholders worked.

I think its a gamble nowadays. I've never personally been burned yet when buying on line (crosses fingers). For example I'm looking for some kind of racing seats for my 00'. But I'm holding out for a local sale. I got a pair local from a guy for my Fox, and I've had no problems with them. The main thing is, you just have to be careful.

And OP, I'm interested on how you like the seats you got. Let us know how they work out for you when you get them.

Well i usually don't buy things from un trustworthy sources but i could not pass up a 60 dollar deal and I've seen the same exact seats for 170 each before it may be a gamble but if they last me at least 3 years I've got my money's worth

Yeah true you aren't out a lot of money at least if they turn out to be crap. Some of these seats have come a long way even in the last 10 years. Even the universal Summit Racing seats are pretty nice for the price you pay. I've seen them go for as low as $300 shipped on the evilbays from Summit. No sliders tho, gotta hack up your stock rails IIRC.

At any rate, pics were requested of my interior. I'll do a before/during/after because I cannot pass up a good opportunity to whore my handiwork.

Here's a before from the PO:

Cray cray pile of parts I got locally out of a wrecked 95 V6 car:

1/4 panels I got from some dude on CL because the V6 was a vert and obviously the vert 1/4 panels no worky. Also note that the dash is just the pad. Swapping the pad eliminates any potential wiring/year to year issues and takes all of 10 minutes extra once the dash is out of the car.

Gutted:

New foams/upholstery from TMI for stock frames:

After:

Again, I am not a big fan of painting interior parts and actually retrofitted my 95 console with the 98 cupholder piece I had leftover from the grey stuff. And it sucks. So now its time to put a painted piece in and hope it holds up, if not I'll just find a mint 98 center console and deal with it. The 95 one I have has a few broken tabs that annoy me.
