Why would someone do this

I saw a New Edge GT with the Boss decals. I don't understand why someone would do this. They didn't even make a Boss those years. I just want some thoughts here.

They did it because they liked the look, and they are making the monthly car payment!

This is what the car hobby is all about; make the car "your own". If folks like it, they sometimes copy it; like when Ford produces a model, we sometimes copy elements of it on our model. If we don't like it, we don't copy it. But we are not making the car payments on those folks automobile.

This reminds me of a thread, I think in this forum, where soemone was going off on "******bags" putting Roush logos all over their Terminator. Except there really WAS a Roush Terminator. lololol.

Although "Shinoda" was a sticker package and some cheap trim pieces. Lulz worthy to spend any extra money on.

Edit: And yes ppl do it because they can and because they like the look. Even the idiot ricers with the fart cans, stick on wings and primer body kits can do whatever they want because its THEIR car. 99% of other ppl think they are morons and I agree personally but live and let live.

The car hobby would be boring if everyone simply left their car stock. In some cases, it's a good thing; never know what tomorrows collectible will be.

However, those that use a base or stock car as their template and make changes to it, are to me what the hobby is about. It makes the rest of us think; either we like it or we don't, but in most cases, it makes us look at our own cars differently. We make changes.

I always liked Mustangs because of how customizable they were. You could always make your Mustang unique from others if you really wanted to. Even if that meant taking a piece of multiple models and creating your own. IMO, nothing wrong with doing your own thing!

That's where all the fun is!

What I was getting at was that he was saying his GT was a Boss 302. That would be like taking a 2005 gt and saying it's Mach 1

I'm on your side to a point; badging a car as one thing when it's not is not cool in most of our opinions. But there's no law against it. Clones have been made and sold for years. If trying to purchase a true model, it's up to the buyer to do their homework before they buy.

As to modeling a car after another, its all up to the owner.

Anyone else here have a thing against "Fobras"? From having had a 94/95 which is the most "un-Cobra" looking Cobra of them all and being asked what seemed like every other day "hey man is that a REAL Cobra?"

I lol when someone says "My Cobra is more Cobra than some Cobras out there". Uh, no it isn't because their VIN makes them one and yours makes yours a GT or a V6...

I tend to have bad conversations with owners of misbadged cars. I have no problem calling them out, especially at car shows. I paid a premium for a real SVT Cobra.

Front of my car:

However, back of my car:

IMO that rear end is the biggest "F-U" possible when they realize it wasn't a Cobra that just beat their ***.

I've got nothing against body parts. It's the badging that gets me.

Hell, my old v6 had roush stage3 front bumper. GT hood scoop and rear bumper. Terminator side scoops. Bullitt/mach suspension. But I never called it anything but a v6

I'm with you there, nothing wrong with parts, it's just when they badge or decal it into something it's not. A kid at my high school had a "cobra" which strangely looked like a 6 cylinder with Cobra badging. To everyone else who didnt know about Mustangs, he had a monster. But you could tell by the SINGLE exhaust outlet and sound it wasn't. He never would open the hood because he said it was too clean and didn't want dust to get in it. Lmao

It's folks like this kid that give it a bad name for others. By pretending and lying, it sours what others try to do without fooling anyone.

I posted when I got my GT to find out what people thought of after-market Roush, Foose, FRPP parts. The bottom line matches what's being said here. Do what you want, but don't call it a Roush, Shelby, Foose, or whatever.

Wise words.
