2014 GT Ford Racing Tune

Hey fellas..I'm getting the Ford Racing Performance package for my '14 GT. It consists of a Procal calibration and a K&N high flow air filter. Supposed to up to 426 hp and 450 lbs torque. Has anyone done this one? Thoughts?

If I was going to use Ford Racing, I would wait for the track key when it comes out soon. Then u would also get launch control and engine braking.

If you're car was built after June or July 2013, you're in the clear and you can get the track key. Search online for the specs, I believe it's June 6/7 or something like that. My car was 2 months before :/

Track Key claims 0 horsepower and is/will be very pricey.

Suggest Procal if you want fun that maintains the warranty.

Still worth it for Launch Control! If I could get it, I would .

How much worth it? Pricing looks set at around $400 + tax when you take into account the $299 software and an hour of dealer shop time to install.

For that you can get an SCT tuner from any reputable vendor with one of their canned or semi-canned tunes on.

Hence the only real draw is the warranty support, which is the same as the slightly cheaper Procal that actually delivers more performance.

The kit from Ford Racing is $299 including the software on American Muscle and my dealer is installing it for $0!

It's obviously subjective, but it's a rare feature and unique to only half the 2014's with track pack. I see value in it and a lot of other members have expressed interest. I am not, however , claiming that one should buy a track key instead of a tune.

In that case you should really hit the aftermarket if you want to tune. The Procal is best suited to a manual application as well. The improvement with auto is muted b/c it doesn't alter any of the auto's programming.

Oh crap..for real? I spoke with a Ford Racing engineer this wk and he made no mention of the kit not working for auto transmissions. So if I got ahead w this upgrade I won't get the 16 hp n 60 lb torque increase and still keep the warranty intact.

No idea where they r pulling 60 ft lbs from! 16 hp sounds reasonable tho. If ur not benefitting from torque management in the tranny, It would be a waste.
If u want more ponies for ur pony, gotta wave bah bye to mr warranty!

It will work and it will be better, particularly the 60 LB/FT boost at 1500 rpm will help day to day. It's just that the marshmallow shifting of the stock auto will mute some of the benefit.

Looks like, according to their web site, they only net 16hp / 7 tq. They do claim to get (up to) 60 more tq at 1500 than stock, but only increase a total of 7. Think I would prefer more up top, than down low on this engine and tire combo. Not even sure how u would measure this since numbers only appear on a dyno above about 2k anyway.
Guess this is one way not to void the warranty tho.

Yea..warranty on this pony just started so I'd like to keep it for the duration. The torque down low is what I need to keep up w the wife's twin turbo SHO.

I hear ya! Torque down low is just gonna help the tires spin at the line tho. Besides, u should have absolutely zero prob with a SHO. U r a second quicker in the quarter, and about 1 sec quicker to 60... But don't tell her that! Lol

You have traction control in your right foot. The car feels A LOT better for this boost, that's for sure.

That fat blob of an SHO has no hope, unless yer a complete meat foot.

There's way too many variables in "engine endurance" to give you any kind of answer at all. You're better off worrying about making sure you change your oil regularly.

That said, FRPP stuff meets the same stringent durability standards the stock stuff does. That's part of the reason it's not on the bleeding edge. FRPP and Steeda are the ONLY aftermarket parts that meet these standards.

Understood..also..can I plug the procal in myself and do the mod or is it too technical and I would be better suited to have the Ford service guys do it instead.

If you want the warranty that comes with Procal you need to have a dealer do it and submit the paperwork afterwards.

A cross-eyed monkey could do this, in real life but, if you want the warranty, you have to pay a pro. Cost me 60 bucks at a local dealer.

If you don't care about the warranty, go slow and make sure the car is hooked to a battery charger or similar. It can be slow to load and if the batt volts get low, problems can arise.

That's great advice..ty..is it like an hour or so to get it done by the dealer and can it be done by a Ford Racing dealer or a regular blue oval dealer?

I think that it has to be a licensed FRPP dealer.

Actually no, it doesn't. Any certified Ford mechanic/technician in the service dept. can do this and that's all the paperwork you need. It's finding a willing service dept. that can sometimes be not as easy. ask around at the dealers locally before you do anything and get that arranged for a quiet time in the shop.

...and yeah, they may want to charge you for an hour. I talked my dealer into doing for the more realistic 1/2 hour.

I have a 13 GT Auto and did it myself, real easy. As stated the 60 lb/ft is not added to the peak it just fattens the curve to add it down low and i definitely feel it on road coarse, helps to fly out of tight corners ( with stability control on or you really need to feather the throttle). It also holds the gears lower when you lift the throttle for better engine braking. best $299 mod out there!

Just follow the instructions; I had the tuner and tune on my doorstep in 2 days.

There are so many calibrations, the tune has to be for your exact ECM, that's why it's like this.
