4.6 Motors

How long will these motors last before rebuild is needed? Currently at 190K. Will these motors last up around 300K miles? Or is that to much?

Not sure if there's an actual "mileage limit" on these things but a lot of it will have to do with driving style, driving conditions, routine maintenance Etc. Under normal driving and putting your foot in it every now ad then it should see a lot of time other than replacing **** that does wear quicker over time like water pumps going out, alternators, ball joints and **** like that. Plus most of our cars in this forum we bought used and aren't sure how good they were actually cared for before us to. Just some thoughts

I've heard 200-250k, and just like ^he said a lot of that boils down to care and maintenance. You can also drop in a straight 4.6 rebuilt w/ 3 year unlimited mileage warranty for 2 grand if/when yours goes out. Or take the op to build up a monster lol.

All depends on how you treated your car and did oil change , how much you rag on your car, and took care of it , can always check your compression ..

It really depends on the person before you.. I got my '02GT at 98kmiles. And at 120k miles the engine blew. I was running a tad lean for about a year though. Hah.

143xxx miles on my 4.6 2v, no issues at all and I'm planning on doing cams within the next few months. These are pretty solid motors.

I've put about 11K miles since I got the car in May. Done 3 Oil changes since. I use Mobil 1 HM 5w-30 with Motorcraft Filter. First thing I done to the car was Seafoam and put new Fuel Filter. Runs good still. Hoping to get 250K+ Miles out of her.

These motors are beasts if taken care of. Routine maintenace, make sure the plugs/COPs are done at the right intervals, you will obviously need to accessories and you'll deal with rotted coolant lines/vac lines but as far as the motor itself they go as long as the pushrods.

Had a friend in the Army with a 94' town car. Nicknamed tank. He bought it for 300$ with the backend draggen on the ground. When he got orders to Italy he sold it with over 300,000 miles. he never maintained it, it pissed coolant and the main seal was going through a quart every other day or so. We had a pool on how the car would die, never did.

Replaced a few dry rotted hoses. Regular oil changes so far. Already changed my fuel filter. 1st tune up I did, lol. Gonna get coil pack, wires, etc soon. Then back to modding. Really want a short throw shifter right now.

Remember the Crown Vic taxi cabs in the big cities are all 4.6L 2V cars and those routinely go 300,000 miles.
