5.4 swap

I'll start out by saying I am not currently doing this swap. However, I am open to it should my engine ever go (I have been researching). But I mostly want some intelligent discussion to read and opinions from you.

•What do you think about a 5.4 swap on a new edge GT?
-2v or 4v? I think the 2v 5.4 would be easier to swap in a GT.
-Will gt heads fit on it? PTV clearance?
•how much torque would and engine like this get stock?
•what kind of n/a numbers can be reached once modded?
•how much rwhp can this block take?
•how would this engine compare to say a 4v 4.6?
•what kind of mpg would this motor get?
•would it bolt up to a 4r75w/4r70?
•best gear ratio for it?

Looking forward to your opinions thanks

Subscribed because I don't know much about these swaps.

I do know they make a lot more torque that the 4.6 does, but that's about it. I don't think the 4.6 intake would fit but the heads might

I was looking into this swap when I first bought my car... In all of the excitement and all.
The 2000 Cobra R is probably the best example of this swap that we have.Ford claimed that It had 385/385 at the crank but would, usually, put down those numbers to the rear wheels. They used some excellent flowing heads leftover from their off-road truck program.
Somewhere on this website is a thread about the 5.4 swap. It doesn't seem too difficult but there are a couple of hoops to jump through if I recollect.
It's surprising to me that Scotty hasn't chimed in here and told us about a Lincoln Navigator 4v and then go on to say how this swap is a waste of time and money and that you would see better numbers by supercharghing our 4.6's.
He's right. You do the math and it's difficult to beat the horsepower per dollar that supercharging achieves.
If you were dead set on N/A though, the bigger the better...

I thought that a Lightning swap would be neat... Until I saw a picture of one installed in a New Edge...

Yea its pretty tall. Most people just cut their hood. But the amount of stroke you can get out of that tall of a deck height is amazing.

If you can acquire an engine / trans affordably, why not? Myself, I like the Raptor 777 engine as a future transplant in mine.

That 5.4 DOHC looks like it would be fun in a Mustang.
The power rating of that engine is 300 hp/355 ft lbs torque. For comparison, the N/A 4.6 DOHC Cobra engine had 320 hp/317 ft lbs torque.

A gt has 302 torque I think. Will you be able to feel 53 lb ft?

Lol okok I knew it was a dumb question as I was typing it lololol

So the best way to complete this swap would be to find a running navigator?

Haha.
Yes. Technically, of the two numbers, torque is the only one that you can actually feel.
Unless, of course, you hitch up a horse to your car...

You'd notice the difference.

Yeah, a running Navigator. Hmmm. You could probably sell the 24" rims that it would ,more than likely, come with to help offset the cost of the project.

Chiming in on this pretty late but 330cubegt posted this swap close to 4 years ago now with a pretty detailed build sheet with some good facts on why the Navi 5.4 is a more effective swap.

Enjoy!
