Tune???

Hello

I am not a gearhead or a wrench so could someone enlighten me on doing a "TUNE" to my 2011 Premium V6 Convertible?

Is it a special tune-up to remove factory settings? What is needed?

When someone refers to a tune it is when you wipe your computer clean and rewrite the whole thing.

Just be aware that if you still have a powertrain warranty left, a "tune" will void it (if the issue can be related to the tune). IE: they find the car was running lean and it damaged the engine. However, a tune from a reputable company has a very small chance of actually causing an issue.

I don't mean to be critical, but the tune won't void your warranty. It could just cause the repair that you have it in for at the time to not be covered if Ford can prove the problem was a direct cause of the tune. Any future unrelated issues would also be handled the same way.

I guess my wording didn't explain the way I had hoped. I agree 100% with you and that's what I meant. If Ford can prove the tune led to the issue, that warranty repair would be void. But that's only if they can prove the tune actually caused the issue. However, with a lot of dirt bag service departments out there it becomes your word versus them, and unfortunately Ford will most likely side with them. I plan on getting a tune for my '14 after I do a few other things. You just have to weigh the potential issues and hassles with the benefits. I feel the benefit outweighs the hassle.

Ford Racings ProCal doesnt void the warranty either... it doesnt gurantee 60+ hp like bama or the other big names but it's an option... I havent decided what tune I will get yet but I have been considering it.

Actually you lose the Ford drivetrain warranty and it's replaced by a Ford Racing warranty. Remember they are two different companies. And your drivetrain warranty goes from 5/60 to 3/36.

Thats why I'm not getting a tune until I absolutely need it. We've already discussed in other threads that the CAI is useless without a tune so I won't be getting one of those. Also in other threads we went back and forwards on the low rpm torque loss of the BOSS 302 IM, and since I won't be driving my car at 7500 rpm everyday so I won't be getting that right away... I'll focus on other bolt-ons in the mean time and by then I'll probably just go with a SC instead. I already had to use my warranty on the trans so I'm not doing anything to void that!

Hrmm, I wonder if you can get the Bama tuner, save your stock tune, get the ford racing one, then put the bama one back on. You would still get the 3/36 and you could just load the ford racing tune back on if you had problems. Then if they say you had a tune, you just say you had the ford racing one loaded. I don't know if they can tell individual tunes, or just that it was tuned.

First, that's dishonest. Second, they will know by the number of flash counts.

Just throwing it out there. What's dishonest it the joke Ford dealers who hassle people about non tune related repairs if you have a tune.
