Having 3.73 gears installed today!

I just dropped my girl off at the transmission shop to have the Ford Racing 3.73 gears installed in my 2013 GT automatic. This should really bring her to life (and make my BOSS intake manifold more useful).

A converter would have been the better choice. And this isn't tech.

Drive it easy for a while to let those gears break in. The temptation is going to be ENORMUS ! Recalibrate the speedo. Have fun.

Thank you sir! The shop that did the install said the same thing - "Take 'er easy." They also told me I need to come back after I put 500 miles on her to get the oil changed. I already notice it is much easier to get to the higher RPM's. A new tune is on its way!

I haven't had the oil changed yet - I've only put 30 miles on her since getting the 3.73 installed. The shop told me they would change the oil for free (if I supply my own, which I will - royal purple is cheap on amazon).

I've always taken the rear end to the shop to have the gears installed. most I've ever paid was 200$ for the install.

I checked with a number of highly rated places before deciding on the shop. The highest bid was for $800 and the lowest was $450. I probably over paid, but I wanted the job done right. I talked my shop down to $500.

Well mine have always been done rite I just always remove my rear end from the car and that normally saves me a couple hundred. Makes it much easier for them to do. I would do my own before I paid 500$...lol

I paid the higher price for the total ford parts and install from my dealer. I value the benefit of keeping my entire rear axle under the extended warranty I have. If I work with my dealer, they work with me.

However the idea 89GTstanger did, do half the work yourself, is good for me to keep in my back pocket for a certain 4-Eye Fox I have my eye on I might buy for another toy.

Ha ha! I have approx three more weeks of break in. I will make sure I give a full report once I unleash her.

Thank you. I'm tired of watching the one video on YouTube of a 3.73 auto trying to compare it to my acceleration ha

Isn't a tune required for a gears change on the auto?

A tune is require for both autos and manuals to fix the speedometer. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that is the only thing the tune does for new gears.

The 3.73 are incredibly fun. I have them in my manual '14 GT. The only downside to them being so fun around town is that the gas mileage suffers. Especially having an axle-back exhaust, you'll just want to step on it every chance you get.

Wrong. A tune on the auto is needed to correct the shift points as well.

As Grabber said, a nice aftermarket triple disc converter would have made a MUCH bigger difference in performance. I think he's in the 11s with the stock 3.15 gears.

You might actually be slower in the 1/4 now although it will feel faster accelerating. If you can hookup.
