Not sure if Ford hopes to pull any tuners over to the 2.3 eccboost mustang or not. But, I think that will be shot down for sure with the new 340bhp 2015 Civic type-R. That is going to be one nasty little four banger. It's going to weigh just under 2900 pounds. It's power to weight will be better than a 13'/14' 5.0... Can't wait to see the price on it. Honda's been out of the fast car sector for some time. Their coming back with a bang. Looks the the NSX it making a return under the Honda badge this time.

Is brake hp the same as flywheel hp?

Either way I'm glad they're making Hondas faster. This is kind of healthy competition that allows companies to become great. Kind of like the worldwide race to see who gets to the moon first

bhp is crank hp i can't remember what magazine i was reading at Barnes and Noble but it is a manufactures estimate. Figure in drive train lose on a dyno it should have about 290 whp. Going to be a fast M eFer!!! Probably a nice premium price too.

I didn't get a chance to read the whole article. That much power in a small car like that they will need some serious launch control. If it's not AWD! Maybe someone else read the article and can fill in the blanks.

I don't see Honda putting a RWD platform on a Civic. It would have to be AWD. That's just my opinion though.

Never said it was RWD. Also wondering if the magazine had a misprint. Because i just did a search online for it and have been seeing 280hp. Not sure what to think now.

Do a quick search, it's still FWD only and it only makes 280 - 285 bhp, which by the way is not at the wheels, it is flywheel rated as the brake (the B in Bhp) is applied directly to the flywheel.

Transmission options could be a 6spd manual or an 8spd dsg.

Honda has stated that their goal with this car was to have the fastest production FWD at the Nurburgring.

They haven't left out the capability of adding awd to the Civic platform but this car (Type R) will not have it.

One more thing, only European markets have been confirmed for this car. So the USA might miss out on this one, like we have most of the good ones.

I will stick with my American Muscle and you can have all the asian cars you want. Asian cars do not qualify as Muscle Cars in my book.

Iron I think you missed the point to this conversation. Read the OP (my post) original post. This had nothing to do with wanting to buy a Civic or being muscle cars. But, with this new high power Civic no tuners will jump to the new 2.3L ecoboost Mustang and no way am I jumping ship. I'll be the first to stay with and the last to leave the beloved Stangs!

Ford site reports the 2.3 as:

"The EcoBoost delivers efficiency with real power to the Mustang powertrain lineup. A high-capacity direct injection system precisely controls fuel delivery, while a new twin-scroll low-inertia turbocharger means incredibly fast time-to-torque."

I read that to be a single turbo.

Here's a link that contains an 8 second shot of the 2015 Mustang engine bay with the 2.3:

Google is your friend, as are members here too:

Turbocharger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

About half way down the entire article, it explains twin scroll.

The real reason for a turbo 4 is two compete in the European market. They are so far ahead in 4 cylinder technology, that anything else offered "for the masses" as a true world car would be fruitless. No doubt that 2.3 turbo is going to be a buzzer. I hope to see it dance around the Mercedes and BMW's over there.

Doubt they are going to pull any ricers over... Think about it... Ricers are teenage kids who buy the base model Civic because it's cheap, stick a fart can, ugly wheels, and silly stickers on it, then say that it's the most powerful car in the world.

I work with guys from 19 to 72 years old and I personally know 4 in their late 20's driving rice two of them a civic SI's. one an STI and the other an Evo. Also work with a guy who is 31 and has a civic SI and two guys in their early 30's one with a golf GTI the other has the Golf R. I would say most of rice drivers are teen to early twenties but not all.

Love the Golf R, friend of mine let me borrow his 2013 Golf R. That's not a ricer, that's a "hot hatch".
