What's the point of spending all the money on our cars?

First off I'm not bashing spending all the money. Iv dropped an easy 4gs into my car.

Have you guys ever started thinking to your self what's the point? Why spend all this money for little gains? Does it really need to be faster? Louder?

I mean if you really wanted a 1/4 mile monster why not get a 1000cc bike that runs 10s stock? I'm getting one.

Just something to think about. I love my car don't gete wrong I'm just curios on everyone's thoughts

I agree, some of these dudes WASTE money of things that do very little to help their performance and if they are driving a new 5.0 Coyote they already have 400+ hp and you cannot begin to use that much HP on the street and I would imagine 99% of these guys never hit the dragstrip and buy tuners, exhaust, headers etc and then sell the car in a couple of years and all that money has gone to waste because you never get it back.

Thats why whatever upgrades I do to my 5.0 are very little and very calculated because there is no need in spending money on something you cannot use.

I've thought about that before. It actually crosses my mind whenever i am about to click the button to buy something else. The answer is..... Its fun.

Others spend their money on drugs or partying, I spend my money on this. Its what I have fun with.

I'm just as guilty as the next guy when it comes to this. And maby I'm just felling this way becouse i got my tax return and am trying to save up for a bike. And if I had the money iv spent on mods it would be almost paid off. Or I could get a really nice bike. And since I did my longtubes I'm only getting about 12 mpgs

---------- Post added at 07:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:13 PM ----------

And getting a bike will pay for it's self almost in gas

I've reached that point actually. I'm to the point where building a 2V to carve corners really isn't the brightest idea when there's so many better platforms than this one. My goal now is just to get my GT looking nice and then save up for either an S2000 or a C5 Z06

Get a miata and turbo it. Thing would be a beast at the track. For me I'm basically doing just appearance stuff for now. Rims, spoiler, tint and maybe a tuner down the road. I have a v6 so a tuner is a cheap way to get some power and fix the auto.

At least in my Humble Opinion, it makes your car more personalized to the owner. Now if everyone had the money, we all would be driving Super Snakes. But since most of us didn't win the lottery, it makes it more personnel. Everyone is different, whether it starts from paint, tires, stripes, Engine, Options selected, and use of the vehicle.

I realize if I try to sell it down the road, the almost $7,000 in mods will be lost. But it I wasn't spending it on my car, the girlfriend would be getting a chunk of that.

Eh I would supercharge it. Don't want to have to deal with turbo lag in the middle of a turn

I think the point to spending money on our cars is too make us happy. Its a hobby. Some people collect art. Some people spend money on paintings. Some people like too spend 10k on a vacation that lasts maybe 2 weeks. Some people put money into buying jewelry. Some people buy 500 and 1,000 dollar pocketbooks.

Its all about what makes a person happy and what they like. I personally have spent around 4k in mods and performance wise, I'm done with my performance and am real happy with its power.

This is exactly right. My stang will never be a garage car, whatever mods I get... Will have a lot of miles on them.

Bro, my joy is hearing that engine roar, hearing my exhaust, feeling that acceleration as it puts me back in my seat. I love my mods but love driving my stang more.

We're all gearheads, it's what we do...
Instinct I suppose.

Someone on here had this as their signature.

Modding:
Buying parts that you don't really need, with money that you don't really have, to impress people that you don't really know, who ,probably, don't really care anyways...

Please be careful on that bike Luna.

I will say this, like any hobby when you start trying to rationalize spending and resale value you've basically runied that hobby for yourself. Like others have said you do it because you like it. I like cars and motorcycles. Could I invest that money? Yes. But I budget for my hobbies and what the hell is the point? You only have one life, might as well enjoy it and spend your hard earned money on something that brings you joy.

Please start on a 600 or less! Do not get a liter bike. As a rider of many years and on many bikes I can say with authority that you will never be able to push that 600 to its limits and will never out grow it. 90% of the asshats that buy liter bikes end up doing two things:dying or become scared of the bike and selling it. 600's are way easier to handle, more fun and confidence inspiring.

Best of luck, its a fun hobby.

# 1 drugs are illegal. #2 my best buddy that I was friends with from 12 years old died 3 years ago of a drug overdose at 50 yrs old. He did drugs of some sort from the age of 16 until his death, ruined his life and many others so no I most likely wont be joining you or anyone else in your drug filled evenings.

I have no further comment on this subject, Some people are impossible to reach and will learn the hard way.

Back on topic, this was about overspending on our Mustang's.

Man, it's a passion! I think it's about making your car fit your personality. I have an aggressive personality. Its easy to tell when you look at me and and what I like. I love working out and being fit, I own 2500$ pit bulls, and I like my mustang loud, fast as he**, lots of lope and the most sinister, aggressive look I can give it!! I LOVE hearing it as I drive and annoy everyone around me. I love the feeling as it slams you in the seat when you smash the pedal. I dont spend money on anything for me other than my car and most of the time I'll take that money and spend it on my family, so when I do get parts for her it makes it all the more sweeter!! As long as I live and breath I'll blow senseless money on my mustang.

It's easier to mod a car when you don't have kids and stuff to take care of
