Well there were a few problems. One I switched wheels so my speedo was slightly off. Two my limiter had been removed. And three I was driving upset and racing my now current boyfriend lol. I hit about 130/135 (on my speedo) before I heard a loud bang.

I am very Glad you were not hurt. Once the loud bang happened, what happened next? What kind of damage did it cause? Any Pics of the damage?

Loud bang I pulled over as I heard a little scraping. I shut my car off and couldn't start her afterwords. I called a tow and they came and got me.

From what my mechanic told me I had a small hole right below where my shifter would be that he patched. He also said there was a small hole in my exhaust. Which I just found out a few weeks ago was not actually the case. I was fortunate enough the my exhaust held my driveshaft up and it did not rip off. I would DEFINITELY recommend a loop if you can't afford to get a driveshaft yet.

Absolutely!! There really aren't many options for the V6 so I had to go with Coast Performance via Stage3Motorsports. But since then I have no had any issues, noise or vibration. .

I purchased my one piece aluminium driveshaft from AM and its made by the axle exchange. Based upon my research and speaking with other forum members of the past, this driveshaft is excellent quality. AM also sells another one piece driveshaft and think its by the Driveshaft Shop. I hear that one also is excellent.

I personally love having my one piece aluminum driveshaft.

How is the install? Did you guys do it by yourselves or have a shop do it? If so how much?

There was a guy on here a while ago who lived in Germany and said he drove at +120 daily on the stock shaft. I warned him several times and showed him the infamous shaft failure videos. Totally dismissed what I was saying. Is this not proof enough? I haven't seen him on here in a while now. Jee, I wonder why.

I had mine professional installed at same time my 3:73 gears were installed. Because it only took the mechanic a few minutes to install the new driveshaft he never charged me. I'm told its quite easy too remove old driveshaft and install new one. The biggest pain is just getting under car, not having a car lift makes it a real pain in the back side. Sure you can use jack stands but just easier too have mechanic install for me.

The installation is fairly easy! If you're taking your time, have basic hand tools, jack stands and a floor jack, than it shouldn't take you more than 2hrs to do the install. Once you've installed a DS one time, you'll be able to do it twice as fast the next time!

Here's a customer submitted install guide for the 11-14 v6 driveshafts. Any other Mustang has basically the exact same process too. This guide should help show you what you're getting into. I think you'll quickly find it's very do-able!

Of course, if you have any questions you can always hit me up!

I took mine to a friend of mine. He installed my 3.73's while he was at it too. Cost me about $200!

From NJ? Welcome to the club. And yeah, solid 1 piece is kind of a required upgrade on the new V6s. No clue why ford does a 2 piece but w/e...

Hard to tell in the picture that shows the drive shaft busted in two, but I assume its at the joint; the weakest part of the two piece drive shaft.

One lucky person to have the exhaust stop the broken drive shaft from acting as a catapult if it were to strike the ground. I recall Mythbusters doing an episode on this.

Makes me wonder why the folks that build tunes remove the speed limiter without proof of a onepiece driveshaft being installed.

A crafty lawyer could maybe hold them (folks that create tunes) liable for any bodily harm if the driveshaft breaks due to speed limiter removed?

No mention was made where the speeds happened (hopefully this was done at a track), so we are leaving it. Please do not answer this!

It is a good lesson for others to see what can happen when a speed limiter is removed, and this sort of speed is performed with a stock drive shaft. I guess that is a good enough reason as to why the speed limiter was placed on a stock tune to begin with. We have to understand that Ford builds them to run on public roads, and at legal speed limits, so they cannot be blamed for the two piece drive shaft. I've yet to hear of any documented incident where this driveshaft has imploded at legal speed limits, at or below the speed limiters setting.

I'm assuming that the new 2015 Mustangs destined for European sales will have a higher speed limiter, and a driveshaft to handle them, as areas such as Germany with some sections of the autoban have unlimted speed limits, although these sections are now getting smaller due to populations and traffic.

Very glad to read that no one was hurt.

Makes me wonder why the folks that build tunes remove the speed limiter without proof of a onepiece driveshaft being installed.

A crafty lawyer could maybe hold them (folks that create tunes) liable for any bodily harm if the driveshaft breaks due to speed limiter removed?

Yes I was absolutely fortunate that my exhaust caught it and it didn't hook and rip my car apart. Definitely not blaming ford for it but I still think they shouldn't have cheaped out. There's still a noticeable difference with the car. What if I was on the autobahn ?! Lol. And consistently driving the car at it's too range, 125mph, I'm wondering if that could cause it to blow too.
