A good comparison in latest edition of HOT ROD

Well, A kind of unfair comparison.
A new $75,000 Camaro Z28
A 69 Z28 with a full tube trans am chassis and a 540ci Brodix engine
up against a Boss 302 stock engine/tranny Mustang that the owner drove 500 miles one way to get there. Then drove 500 miles back home. His Mustang was on his stock wheels and Pirelli P-Zero street tires. He does use Steeda wheels and Nitto track tires when he is running at race tracks. Of course , He could not bring them with him. I'm believing it would have been a different story if he had his Nitto track rubber and the Track brake pads. The Z28 uses Pirelli Trufeo super wide almost racing slicks and Brembo Carbon Ceramic brakes, No insulation, No air conditioning, No Radio, No sound deadening and thin rear window glass to save Weight
You gotta read this if your a Mustang lover. ( HOT ROD 06/14}
The $75,000 Z28 was only 4 seconds faster around the track then the Boss 302 which was faster then the Trans am 69 Z28

My friend Jack owns the Mustang and not only tracks the car but drives it every day to work. His mods are a Ford Racing shifter, A roll bar, Steeda rear sway bar.( Adjustable) and not much else. It is pretty well loaded with air conditioning and a radio of which the Camaro does not have.
One problem with the brake pads were they were Hawk street pads. Jack brought new track pads but they had no time to let him change over.

2014 Z28 at $75,000
69 Trans -am full race car "about" $150,000
2013 Boss 302 Mustang cost jack $38,000 plus the couple grande he put into it including Steeda wheels and Nitto Tires ( Not Used for this comparison) is about $42,000
Me, I'll take the street car that has AC and a radio any day for a lot less $$$$ and live with a four second slower car around Barber Motorsports Park.

It is worth reading the story in this latest issue of HOT ROD Magazine. issue 06/14
Jacks Mustang when He first bought it

Kinda cool and the B302 is impressive in its own way (especially given the street tires) but, let's be real, 4 seconds a lap on what? around 1:40 lap time is basically parked in the paddock and feet up while the other car is still completing the race distance. I expect the gap would widen running a full race distance as the tires and brakes cooked off on the Mustang.

Damn, that 302 look good though...The real embarrassing slug here though is the purpose-built Are You Faster Than a Redneck '69 Z28.....

It's an awesome car, but ya for $75000 it better be. Take your BOSS and the 30K you left, put that into your car, and that BOSS will spank that new Z 28

Times around the track

Z28 did it in 1.36.17
69 Camaro full race did it in 1.41.84
Boss 302 did it in 140.50

Considering the Boss used Pirelli P-Zero Nero performance street tires and Jack drove the 500 miles to get there and the 69 Camaro is a full race car and the Z28 has no air conditioner or radio and uses 6 to 8 thousand dollars worth of brakes along with no sound deadener and lightweight back glass I think the Boss 302 did a great job.

I wonder why when they take stuff out of anything , They always charge way more.

Agreed...super leggera in Italian or GT pick yer# from Porsche means open yer wallet.

The B302 comes with PZero summer only , not Nero. That is a bit of a cheater tire too, in its own way. AMG Merc spec and a pretty soft compound. Not like the Trofeo but not a low buck, econo Prius tire. This is part of the reason the 2011 bbp car was able to stand up to the v8 m3.
