4.9L Mustangs?

I just thought I'd share this because I found it interesting. Turns out that the 5.0L Mustangs of 1979-1993 actually ran 4.9L engines. The only reason it was called a 5.0 was for marketing purposes, and because it was very close to being 5.0. Ford simply rounded up! I don't know if this is common knowledge and I'm just late to the party, but I haven't heard of this before.

Lol it's just one of those weird things, like how a year is actually 365.25 days.

It's barely a 5.0. The actual conversion of a 302ci is 4.948L, which rounds to 5.0L.

The 8 makes the 4 round up, then the 4.95(rounded up the 8) rounds to 5.0

Actually a year is 364.75 days, hence having to add an extra day every 4 years.

And yes all the "5.0" pushrods up to the last run 01 Explorers are 4.9s in actual displacement.

Another fun fact for our bowtie friends, the LS1 is NOT a 350, it is a 346ci displacement :O

I absolutely hate when people would come up to me in my Z28 and ask "does that have a 350?" Maybe it's my OCD but I cannot stand that.

From University Today:

"A year is 365.24 days. Or 8,765 hours, or 526,000 minutes, or 31.6 million seconds. The tricky one is the number of days. Because the earth year doesn't work out to exactly 365 days, we have the leap year."

Your math is wonky. Lol Which makes me think, every time the ball drops and it isn't on a leap year, we are counting down at the wrong time...by several hours.

And I didn't know that rounding up was such a common thing in the engine displacement business.

That is so confusing... yeah just verified it is 365.25 which makes no sense to me. Whatever, that's why I got a BA and not a BS lol.

And Ish, when I had my Cobra I more than pissed off a few LS1 owners when they have said, "nice 4.9L" and I shoot back with "nice 346!". First the confused look like "wha...???" then after the explanation I get told I'm full of **** and just jealous. Lol, funny how they know the 5.0 is not a 5.0 but have no clue theirs is not a 350.

Remember, a leap year is a 366 day year. A lot of people think for some reason that leap years are shorter. So .25 x 4 = 1 extra day!

Yeah I had my math reversed, thinking you had to add a day to make up for shorter years previously. Its the other way around. Like I said, BA degree...
