Edge to the GT but can be close if you can launch better since he is stall limited.

What gears ?
I have actually beat GTs with intake tune full exhaust and throttle body

My car is a 12 with hybrid tune intake and exhaust
Its a close race by every means but remember the V6 is lighter and the V8 has more torque. Your car being manual in my opinion makes it a drivers race you got to be on point with those shifts. When ive raced GTs they have gone ahead first and always end up catching them up and beating them
Goodluck bro !

If you can launch and nail your shifts, the 3.7 will pull the win.

With the tune n the auto, the auto will shift faster then he can most likely regardless.

Mod for mod the GT is and will always be faster.

A 2008 GT Coupe is also rated LIGHTER than the V6 3.7

It's going to be very difficult to out 60' your friends auto GT, with street tires. If you had a set of drag radials and could definitely beat him out of the hole, I'm sure you could win. Launch at the track is just plain difficult, but it's much easier with an auto. That right there gives him the upper hand. Regardless if he has less top end than you do.

It still sounds like a fun race though! I love racing close friends at the track. That never gets old!

From many reviews ive read the V6 is lighter
Not by much but most definitely lighter
The V6 is rated at about 3400 pounds and the V8 about 3550

My GT was 3460 manual with 18x10s weighed at the track with a little over a half tank. The scale went in 10 lb increments.

Edmunds AND ford.com has the V6 manual coupe at 3501 lbs. and auto at 3523

Edmunds also has the 2008 GT at 3356 for a manual. I would have to think that is on an empty tank.

Wikipedia has the GT at 3480.

Motortrend also has it at 3352 lbs for a GT coupe. So on and so forth.

I would agree that it comes down to the driver. I've beaten 4.6s before in my 13 V6, also being a standard.

OP, what gearing do you have? What gearing does your buddy have? My guess, your buddy's 08 Gt will win because its automatic and they shift perfect. Autos are just consistently faster and far easier to launch. I hope you have 3:73 gears or higher and your buddy doesn't. Lol

I think the OP having a manual transmission is gonna hurt him against a tuned automatic. An automatic shifts perfect every time and being tuned, no longer has sloppy shift points. Unless the OP can really out gear the 08 Gt, I personally think the 08Gt will take the win. The OP better be flawless on his launch and shifts because the automatic will be and the launch is far easier with less wheel spin.

Autos properly setup and with the same power will usually win at the track. If he has an aftermarket stall converter he will push in your proverbial butthole. If he has a stock converter and you get a really good launch and nail all your shifts you could win.

I have seen autos making over 100hp less on the dyno just absolutely wtfpwn a stick shift in the lane next to them. But that is on bigger power cars.

Op states that his buddy has an 08gt tune, cai, x-pipe. He said nothing about stall converter or lower gears. The 3v 4.6 is lazy with a stock gear ratio, the 3.7 will get out enough in the 60ft that he should hold the gt off until the end of the quarter. It won't be a blow out either way but close.

OP what gearing do you have?

The one with a Driver Mod will win.

I am sure we can call agree that a street race, one at that, is not a gauge for performance on vehicles that are very close.

I've beat out newer V6s (3.7) that had nothing more than CAI and tune, in my '04 GT!.. Both being Auto!.. That being said, I would say the GT has the win!.. He also has one more mod than you!..
