Anyone here have a TKO transmission?

How's it going guys. I recently had my tko600 rebuilt, I'm having trouble going into first and I have to play with the clutch a little to get it to go in. The tranny starts vibrating at 2700 rpm and by the time I'm at 5k rpm I can hear it jumping all over the place. I can also hear my clutch spinning at low rpms.
Is anyone else having these or similar issues? If so what do you recommend I do. I still have warranty but the shop insists it needs to break in. Its been 2k miles since the rebuild and it has not gotten any better.

Just trying to get some input man it's hard to get feedback from just one post.
Is changing the title and a few words acceptable?

I have a TKO 600 in my 94.

I have no issues with it going into gear, making noises or anything else. It works perfectly.

The break in time sounds like BS to me. The TKO 600 (has less than 2000 miles) and my T56 when new have never made any noises or ever been hard to get into gear.

No vibrations at all. Transmission and clutch are smooth up till redline (6200 RPM).

That's a good amount for a rebuild. I hope you go to the mechanic and scream in his face lol. 2500$ and a transmission that's still messed up.. Screw that.

I would ask for a refund for the transmission and go elsewhere. That shop is BSing you and not backing up their work. Also, their prices sound a bit high, considering you can purchase a brand new TKO 600 for less than the cost of their rebuild.

The TKO in my 94 was already in the car when I purchased it. However, I do have receipts for everything. It states that the TKO 600 was purchased for $2300 brand new. Then it was upgraded with synchros, bronze shift fork pads, internal shift linkage upgrades, special block rings and the Pro 5.0 shifter for a total cost of $2738.00.

The T56 in my Z28 is going to cost about $2500 for a complete rebuild by RPM Transmissions. However, it will be completely built to hold 1000+ whp/ft lb. RPM is one of the best Tremec shops in the country.

I didn't really have a choice in paying that much. It was either pay it or leave the car there.
I was told to break it in and don't beat the clutch or tranny up.
After 2 days and 100 miles of slow driving I took it back and let them know what's going on. after 20 minutes of me telling them something is wrong they finally got in the car and the first thing he did was give my baby a hard pounding and still had the nerve to say nothing is wrong
I told him to drive the car like they told me to and he noticed it didn't wanna go into 1st. He said that happens once the tranny is warm. I said it didn't happen before the rebuild. And still nothing was done.

Does your TKO grind on reverse if you don't go to a forward gear first?

A transmission shouldn't grind under any circumstances, as long as the clutch and normal things are being done. I would report them to every agency I could, one of them may come to your rescue. If not that, maybe small claims court is in your future. It's messed up a place can do this.

I have read different reviews on the tko some say it doesn't have a reverse synchro and some say it doesn't grind if you go straight to reverse I figured I should ask before I take action. I will see if they're part of the BBB if so I will report them if they don't fix the tranny. Small claims sounds like a good idea though. Hopefully everything gets worked out I really don't wanna go through all of this bs

Yeah I hear ya. Ish can probably answer it for ya, but I wouldn't think a transmission is suppose to grind, in any gear. Sorry this is all happening to ya. This is why I always look at reviews before bringing my car anywhere.

Mine goes into every gear without any issue, even reverse. No noises, no grinding, no issues at all.

I will say it is a bit notchy (I think from the shifter) and I don't like the Pro 5.0 at all.

Otherwise, no issues to speak of.

Mine has a spec stg3, no chatter or anything, as I said, it's all functional with no noises or any other issues.

That shop is screwing you around. Threaten to take them to small claims court. The trans should not make any noises like you are describing nor be hard to get into gear. Was probably some yahoo shop that has no experience with a TKO and no clue wtf they are doing.

The thing is I chose this shop cause they said they have a lot of experience with tko's. I am going on Monday since its a long weekend. I Don't want her to sit there for nothing. I will definitely take them to small claims if they start giving their BS again

Threaten them will small claims if need be. Then they will listen up a little more. Did your transmission come with a warranty?

I moved the 94 today, figured I would make a short little video. I started the car (been sitting for about 2 weeks), let it idle for about 30 seconds, then started recording.

You can see and possibly hear if you turn up the volume, the car goes directly into gear, no noises, no issues at all. Also there is no chatter or anything else.

Maybe it will help, maybe it won't, only took a few minutes to make.

Call your local news channel. Don't you have like "5 on your side" or something in your neck of the woods? No Company wants their bad practices advertised on the news. If the news gets involved they will fix it real fast & smile about it while thanking you for bringing them the work.
I've seen several news reports on auto repair shops taking their customers for a ride. Usually, they end up fixing the customers problem pretty fast. Most the time the news needs filler stuff anyway & summer is car repair time so it's perfect timing for them to take your story.

You just have to stand your ground really and let them know you are not an idiot and you are not going to take no for an answer.

Ok guys sorry it took so long, but my twisted ankle turned into a fractured ankle.
Anyway, finally able to clutch my baby although it hurts a bit but oh well.
I took it back last Monday, took the guy out for a drive he heard all the noises and my concerns. He called me on Friday saying the noises don't concern him and vibration is caused by a bad rear end.
Well everything from the flywheel to axles has been rebuilt so there is no way it's the rear end. Then he said my adjustable rear upper and lower control arms bushings are bad, which they're but I doubt those will give the tranny any problem shifting. Then he said my shifter is too short and it will void my warranty if I don't get a longer one. WTF!!!!! You guys don't understand how mas I was leaving his shop. I told him I'm going to get everything else fixed and if it still does it I'm going to ask for my money back. He got mad and walked away. Greeeeat.
