Radar detectors are pretty useless. There are a lot of other ways they can catch you speeding, like pacing you, or even using laser instead of radar, which is much more accurate and by the time the detector even senses them they will already have you tagged.

Like said above, just go the speed limit if you are that worried about being caught.

You should drive the speed limit.

You should have bought the 420 hp monster to get there faster.

Realistically though, not much you can do unfortunately. Radars are useless now due to their upgraded technology. I had a friend that went with his uncle who was a cop.. He said that there's no real way to know if they are there. He said that radars are useless and don't work. They may work in a poor county that can't afford the new stuff maybe? I wanted a radar but he steered me away because it's a waste of money

It sure would make it a lot nicer if we could watch them like they watch us lol

They are useless...just go the speed limit. And have your fun on the track, and don't endanger yourself and others.

I live in a poor country-(FLORIDA)

They still use Radar here a lot. I don't really speed around town but I do have a Solo 2 radar detector that works great. It will pickup a radar signal way before I see a police car using it.
My GPS tells me of road obstacles, or if the hazard will be a problem.

Not sure why they even care. Would make the forum more interesting to share some kill stories. Unless its because the mods get paid by ad revenue and they don't want to support illegal activities

My radar detector has saved me multiple times. It just has to save you once and its paid for itself.
Driving from NM back home to CA, cops looooove to sit on the side of the road with radar on. Once in a blue moon lazer will pop up, but if I speed, I stay in a pack of cars, and never more than 10 over.

It would be fun, certainly make the forum more exciting, and less dull, as it can sometimes get.

I understand the POV that they are coming from though.

I say allow a few per month, nothing ridiculous though.

Or maybe one kill thread that everyone could post their kills in. Would be nice. When I google I always notice the older threads (and sometimes dead forums) are the ones that always can tell ya if your gonna get walked or not by another car.

I have a valentine v1 and no they aren't useless you just have to play smart. Of course if you are the pack leader no matter what you will get hit first but that's why you have to stay in the back or in the middle. It has saved me countless of times, on a long stretch of highway road coming from miami it detected a cop from 10 miles away so its not too shabby. Yeah laser will get you and it will be too late before you can slow down but once again you have to play smart and not rely on it 100%. It's a tool and you need to learn how to use it..... This question is better asked on a forum like svt performance. Check on there, there is countless of threads regarding the valentine v1 and the escort detectors.

I would definitely not say they are uselsss. I have a mid-range Whistler and it works like a champ. As has been said before, even if it only saves you once, it's paid for. End of discussion.

The trap you can fall into though, is RELYING on it to save you. Just a safety net. Learn your locals roads, keep your eyes peeled. *Also only try this on closed courses with professional drivers *

I suggest the application WAZE first. But radar detectors only work as well as the operator. I had one when I was young- was, uhh, not following the speed limit, and turned the corner and saw the officer. BAM my detector goes off. I was doing 104 when I saw him, 86 when he got me. 26 over. Last time I drove that fast on a public road.
No joke, you're better off not speeding enough to get points. Thankfully I learned after the first time.

UltArc has a point. If you live in a rural area or if your the only one on that road at that particular moment, you are screwed. If you don't know much about radar and laser guns, read about "instant on" vs " constant on." Most of the cops these days run instant on. Just a little FYI for all you newbies.

Agreed, cops on county roads will sit hidden and flick the radar/laser on as you go by. No defense against that except to not drive like an idiot. Now on the highway, they may work OK I guess. Or you can just not speed there either. There is seriously 0 reason to go 85mph in a 65mph zone, none. Do 70-75mph and let the cop nail the ****** in the BMW 7 series flying by at 100mph in the left lane.

Yea when cops are actually trying to nab people they will use the instant on laser instead of the always on radar, they use that one when they are assigned to that and don't really care about getting people.

I see that the information is put across here is not upto the mark. A high end radar detector can detect K, KA, X band radar and Lidar(LASER). KA and K band is most widely used by the cops along with LASER depending on the area you live in. The radar detector is not at all useless and it has saved me from more than 10 speeding tickets. There is nothing as instant on Laser but there is Instant on Radar (usually just KA band). When a cop decides to Instant on(I/O) you, you are most likely a toast but you can get away with it if you brake hard. I've gotten away with it several times.

LASER is even worst. If a cop shoots you with a LASER and you get an alert then 90% of the time you are toasted but you can brake hard and get away with it or it will catch your reduced speed while braking. For eg. If i was doing 80 mph and speed limit was 65 mph and cop decided to use I/O or LASER and i braked hard, they would get a speed of say 70 mph or sometimes less like 63 mph. This can save you from a ticket of speed +15 mph over the speed limit.

Also as the other fellow member said do not speed as a leader. Keep speeding behind a speeding vehicle. In this way the speed vehicle gets hit by the radar/lidar first and you detect the radar/lidar and have enough time to slow down.

I use Redline and its an absolute beast. You can get more information on Radardetectorforum.org.
