CAT Back or Axle back for sound

Hey guys,

I'm new here. Just got a 14 gt and want to swap the exhaust. I'm not very knowledgable on them so I thought I'd ask here. If I swap out the factory pipes for an off road x pipe and stick on the Roush axle back's will that produce a louder more aggressive tone than say if I was to just swap the axle back? I know I'd get a little more hp by deleting the cats but as far as tone goes, would you know the difference?

That's not a bad thing, right? Someone actually just recommended the SLP Loudmouth axle backs and boy, do those things sounds bad.

Yes you should notice a difference for sure with an O/R midpipe. X-pipes are a little bit more raspy and h-pipes are known for their deep muscular tone. Volume most likely will increase. I'd say give the Borla S-Types or ATAK's a listen too before you pull the trigger on some AB's.

For sure, I'll check them out. I'm in the market so I'm open to any suggestions.

Slp's are just loud. Not terrible, it's just all about your personal preference

Yes I edit my posts a lot, auto correct likes to sabotage me!

I'm at the loud stage still. At some point louder isn't better but I want to rattle some alarms off. Lol

If you want loud, but not absolutely absurd. Borla ATAK catback.

That's another that I saw that seemed like a good set up. I actually just ordered the SLP's though so we'll see! Will update.

If you want set-off-alarms-and-piss-off-your-neighbors loud, Roush is not a solution. Roush is throaty and angry, but it's not so loud as to be obnoxious.

The Loudmouth's are awesome. They are loud though so don't get them thinking you'll be quiet at any time.

Heres my quick story..

Bought Flowmaster axle back mufflers for my 12' GT.. Loud at low idle, Loud at high rpms.. Basically a straight pipe.. Wasn't much into the way the tone was, sounded kinda.. Outta mustang tone, IMO..
Got a Summit AFTER CAT xpipe, QUIETED the exhaust down and sounded better and cleaner...
Went onto the BORLA S TYPE axleback.. Much mch better tone, sound.. MUCH quieter at idle and in low rpms, 3,000 rpms gets louder and sounded great... I'm the type to like the car being loud low rpms, through town.. Just the way I am lol. Swapped back to the Flowmaster Outlaws and currently seeling my S-types.... The S types were the best tone, and sound, just not as loud as I was hoping.....

Do you have emission testing in Illinois? If so, go with the catted X-Pipe and the Roush. You could also add Shorty Headers to it.

Yeah same thing. My brother has a 14gt also, and it sounds like a Prius now compared to mine now. The idle is perfect and the sound it kicks back at 5-7k rpm's is crazy. Snap, crackle, and popping all over the place.

Unfortunately yes, there's emission testing here in Illinois.
