This ends how?

OK, Dodge has this new 700+ HP iron block monster that rolls 200+ and is all the rage. Chevy will chase this down with the Corvette or Camaro in 2016 at the latest and I'm sure they are still regretting that they didn't go out to 4.560 on the bore centers with the LS engine. That leaves Ford with the blown cammer that is on borrowed time. Will they finally take the 6.2 out of the Raptor and put it into the Mustang or ?

They'll do whatever they have to do. Maybe they'll take a non-forged NA version of the 5.8L in the GT500s and slap that into the Mustang, who knows.

And the current 5.0 on borrowed time? Lol, maybe for ppl who want a 600-700hp NA Mustang. There are some tricks left to it like direct port, the revised heads in the new 2015 and its not like they couldn't ramp up the cams a little more. Ford will be able to do 500hp on the Coyote no problem. If ppl want more they can do the supercharger thing they've been doing IMO.

edit: And having some crazy assed 900hp monster isn't exactly necessary anymore for the "base model" V8. I mean there is only so much power that is safe for your average driver and if someone wants/needs more there will be options just like there are now whether it is a factory supercharged car or the aftermarket. Hell, you can order a 1000HP Mustang from Shelby right now if you want...

I think he's talking about factory options. Which is kind of pointless IMO since horsepower numbers/displacement do not always equal faster as the Camaro found out in 2011.

Well the 707hp Hellcat is supposedly running high 10s on drag radials in bone *** stock form otherwise. I'm assuming that is through the A8 and not the M6. I think 10.85 was the number. That is pretty goddamn fast for a car that big and in stock trim if true. Even if they are low 11s IRL that's still quick. However, it should not take 700hp for a well appointed street car to run high 10s/low 11s IMO. Lots of full weight Coyotes running faster times than that with way less power.

It ends when people start getting hurt. Then our "Mommy" government steps in and pulls the plug...

They seem to be pricing these cars to keep them out of the hands of kids, though.
Even some of us "big" kids!

My vote is for the naturally aspirated Boss 777.
7 litres, 700 horsepower, @7000 RPM's
It's been to 800hp on E85.
Word has it that Roush has already put it in a current model Mustang for testing.

I like big cubic inches and N/A.

The 5th gen Camaro is a tank.

I would bet that if you dropped a stock Coyote in a 5th gen Camaro, it would be slower than it is with it's stock LS3. Same would be true if you dropped an LS3 into a 2011+ Mustang, it would likely be faster than the Coyote. Simply because of how much more torque it makes.

It's all about power to weight.

Another thing to consider, even with a 500 hp DOHC 5.0L, you will never have the low end torque of a 500hp OHV 6.2L.

Straybullitt understands. If inches and HP didn't matter we'd all be driving a 120HP 4 bangers. Dodge gets it. Media loves it. They needed something to promote the car and they built it. Chevy will deliver. Ford needs the BOSS 777 and they know it. It's this competition that gets the cars built that we buy. Mods are a huge waste of time and money with NO resale value. Get it from the factory and it becomes a collectable. Ford would need a trans and a 9" to make it work. 777 has 470+ inch potential with 4.530 bore centers. Will they build it or run up the white flag?

The current transmissions and a lightly modded 8.8 would handle "777" just fine. Stock is nice, but its nicer to spend 1/4 of what some guy going through a midlife crisis will on a car like the Hellcat and blow its doors off.

That's a good example of why the Challenger can be hit or miss. Granted, with a good set of meatier aftermarket tires it may hook a lot better.

This ends how?

It's worth noting that the Hellcat only barely edges out the ZR1 in a drag race (and we already know what happens as soon as the road is no longer straight) and the ZR1 is a 6 year old car. Chevrolet will have no issues trashing the Hellcat in terms of performance. C7 Z06 predictions are consistently low 10s with drag radials. Hellcat ran 10.8 best with radials. Hell if the ZR1 and Hellcat lined up next to each other and the ZR1 actually hooked it might actually still beat the Hellcat.

As for what Ford will do, I couldn't say. A new Ford GT?? That would certainly be fun.

Chevy has already trashed the Hellcat. It's called the Corvette, and soon the Camaro, then Ford will catch up with the Mustang.

Seen it in person. Not some claim on the Internet.

The shop that built my car, " lethal performance " in San atonio TX.

They are known for some of the fastest vettes. And the owner Danny has taken both his cars off the lot 100% stock with a drag radial and hit 9.5.

A tune I can totally believe. They do low 10s bone stick with tires though so 9.5 is screamin fast. But I fathom a tune making up the difference. If he really did run 9.5, that's insanely impressive. Also I'm in Houston.. maybe it's time to take a run up to SA to get the Mustang done up right

X is going to trash Y and then Z will catch up and then X will go back to the drawing board etc...

The Hellcat is a big powerful cruiser that can rip off a potential 10 second quarter mile and look the best out of all the "retro" muscle cars while doing it. For ppl with deep pockets.

Good thing I don't foresee myself going to Mexico anytime soon... Then again you never know when you'll be at a red light and have someone pull up next to you, only to suddenly realize that you've been in Mexico the whole time...
