Moving from MI-TX in one 'stang

Some people say Mustangs are not practical cars. I am here to prove them wrong. Today (Fri. 9/12) I'm leaving at 7:30 or 8am to move from Northville, MI (in the Ann Arbor area) to Bryan, Texas (next to College Station, where Texas A&M is). I got a job at A&M. I'm not towing a U-Haul, but I managed to fill my 2012 V6 with these things, among others:

- Full size bed frame
- Full size keyboard (piano) and its stand
- Stereo system (5.1 surround sound system, so subwoofer too)
- Lots of CDs (in their hard jewel cases, not wallets)
- Area rug
- Kitchen: set of pots and pans, dishes, cookware, etc.
- Hard suitcase filled with art and other home d├ęcor
- Lots and lots and lots of books
- My bicycle, mounted on a bike rack on that back
- Trash can filled with car washing/detailing supplies
- Tool set
- Tons of smaller things squeezed into the spaces in between

It's dark out now but I will post a picture of my "fully loaded" car in the morning before leaving. It's pretty hilarious.

My plan is to get to Champaign, Illinois by 1pm Central for a meeting at the University of Illinois (I applied for a job there but needed to accept the A&M offer before they could make a decision, so I'll just have this informal meeting for networking). Going to try to make it to Little Rock to spend the night. I'll be picking up a Borla Touring axleback exhaust that I bought from the member ocmustang in Ore City, TX on the way (woo hoo!) on Saturday around 11 I hope. And God willing will arrive in Bryan around 2 or 3pm Saturday. I'm even going to the A&M vs. Rice football game with my girlfriend (who lives in Houston) Saturday night.

So, exciting long road trip for me and Lucy (my car). 1,290 miles total. I think she will like the weather there better than Michigan. And Texas World Speedway a few miles from my new house will be nice...

I'll update this thread with pictures and my progress on my stops, including how I'm doing on fuel economy, which will be interesting with this load...

Ugh. Not a good start. Could one of the admins please edit the subject line so that it reads "MI-TX" instead of "TX-MI". Thanks!

I too made a big move in my Mustang. Probably exceeded whatever weight limit they set for it too haha. Drove from Panama City, FL to Seattle, WA. Loaded it up on a ship. Got dropped off 4 days later in Homer, AK and drove it the last 4.5 hours to Anchorage.

A very familiar sight, minus the bike rack, and mine was already lowered lol. Almost got it stuck on the ship's car ramp. Luckily they had wood planks handy haha.

You're going to love he weather change. Don't get excited about TWS. It hasn't been much more than an autocross track in over 40 years. Texas Motor Speedway in Ft Worth and Circuit of the Americas in Austin are the biggies. Good luck on your trip and welcome to Texas.

First off welcome to the Lone Star State! As soon as I saw your pics I started laughing. Reminds me of when I took my mustang to a camping trip; completely loaded except for the bike rack. Hope you have a smooth trip getting here. How's she holding so far?

Thanks for the well wishes and warm welcomes, everyone! I just finished my meeting at Illinois and filled up for the first time. 371.4 miles on 13.7 gallons, which is 27.1 mpg. The car readout says 26.2. This is only about 2 mpg lower than my usual all-highway FE, so not bad considering the load! And Lucy is holding up like a CHAMP. Still delivers power when I want it, like when passing. I've been doing between 75-80 most of the way, usually cruising at 80. I have 2.73 gears btw. Only annoying thing has been my boxes squeaking against the leather.

Big Mac - bummer about TWS! I was really looking forward to that! Guess I'll need to buy bigger sway bars, upgrade my brakes, and get into auto cross then!

LOL, I may have overstated it a bit. The last sanctioned races at TWS were USAC (Indy cars/stock cars) in the 70s. The France family had a falling out with the owners and the planned NASCAR races never happened there. It had great potential as it was a 1.5mi tri-oval. It sat unused for many years before being modified for road racing by local car clubs and the occasional SCCA track day. You may actually have a great time there. I hope so.

Great mileage and drive safely.

Great to know Lucy is still running like she should! Get ready for a better gas mileage haha. I don't really pay much attention to the readout anymore. Just refueled and I'm getting 23.1 readout says 22.

Drive safe man!

P.s. I wouldn't know much about TWS or any other tracks up there don't live even close lol!

Well any law enforcement who shook their heads at my cruising at 80 comment will be happy to know I got a well deserved speeding ticket in Cairo, Illinois for 78 in a 70 zone. $120 citation. Oh well...My first ticket in three years of owning my stang, better than I thought I would do when I bought it!

Dinner break at subway in La Font, Missouri right now. Lucy is doing gas on this last leg, readout is showing 28 mpg. Not gonna fill up now because I have well over a quarter tank left and know I could use a stretch in a couple hours.

Filling up in Arkansas just outside Memphis. 393.1 miles on 13.9 gallons = 28.3 mpg. Digital readout says 27.7. Very impressed. The gf booked me a hotel in Benton, AR which is 150 miles from here. Plan to get there around 12:40 am and call it a night. P.S. if you had a car with perfect alignment you might be able to drive through Arkansas without touching the steering wheel.

That's some great mileage.

I'll keep that Arkansas drive through in mind lol. I'm thinking about heading to MI to visit an uncle next summer

Drive safely man.

Pretty productive day of driving, considering a two hour stop for business in Champaign.

Made it here yesterday afternoon around 4 pm. It was an exciting day. Met up with ocmustang in ore city, Texas to pick up the Borla Touring mufflers I bought from him. Unfortunately we were unable to fit them in my car, and I didn't want to go out of my way to install them at his place yesterday, so he will ship them to me. They look great though! I can't wait for them.

Pictures attached of my final stats. 1313 miles on 20 hours of driving.

The gf and I went to the A&M vs Rice football game last night. Being a Michigan alum, I was rooting for Rice since I can't bring myself to root for the SEC. Fun time though, lots of traditions.

Oh, as requested, took a photo of the scenery with my ride. East Texas is really beautiful.

I'd have put the mufflers in my lap or figured something out lol. Good deal, what sort of mileage is the sixxer getting on all highway? As advertised or in the high 20s?
