Ford Fusion Ford Mustang Look Alike

So there is that constant debate that the 2015 looks like the Ford Fusion. Was going to put this in the new 2015 thread but I know I would just get down talked on it. They are selling a Ford Mustang grill for the Ford Fusion and I have to say with the grill they look awfully alike lolClick image for larger version

Honestly, after seeing 2015 Mustangs in person every time I drive past the dealership next to my house, I don't think they look anything alike anymore. There are so many subtle differences between the two cars. When you first see the pictures side by side, you're captured in to the macroscopic side of things. After much exposure, you start to immediately notice the microscopic side.

So, after much exposure, I don't think they look that much alike anymore. Sure, they are similar in shape, but by no means similar in detail.

This is so true. After seeing them side by side pretty much can just tell they are the same car company much like dodge

Still looks nothing like it, just has a pony on the grille. There are very clear and major differences between the cars.

When I first saw the picture I thought it was a 2015 grill because I was looking at 2014 grills. I literally took a couple seconds to see why it had a ford emblem on the hood. "Oh wait it's a fusion not a mustang."

Same here. With that grille it does have a closer resemblance. Though, after seeing the 2015's on the road and at the dealerships it does not look anything like a Fusion.

I question why would Ford sell that grille for the Fusion especially with the pony logo slapped on it? 😕😐

That would be like putting a GT emblem on a V6. Makes no sense...

It's not directly from Ford. Some company just made it I guess to support mustang if you are a fusion owner and mustang fan? Not sure but it is not made by Ford. I don't think.

The more I see of the new Mustangs the more they're very slowly growing on me.

I'm still pretty far from actually wanting one though.

Take a close look at the grilles on the fusion and the Mustang. They are actually quite different if you look at the angles.

Exactly, its not that it slightly resembles a fusion, but rather a Ford in general.

Notice though, that the Challenger is one in its own. The way it should be.

I rather my mustang not look like a sports car, family car, soccer mom van, and suv. It's suppose to be a "unique" one of a kind mustang. Not a "brand recognized" car.

Sure there is some family resemblance, but I don't see it to an excessive extent either. I actually think they did a good job blending the Mustangness with the brand identity while still keeping it distinct enough. But generally speaking, it's relatively easy to get people to see what they want to see, you want them to see, or they are expecting to see. Not to mention when half of the comparison is based on their best recollection of something relatively new and unfamiliar, using specifically cropped photos.

I mean, put a billet grill in the Fusion, and suddenly it looks like they blatantly copied Aston Martin for their new corporate nose.

Those truly look different though while the mustang and fusion look similar. I am in no way saying they look very similar or identical but they for sure have a much more resemblance than lets say a 2014. That is clear and obvious.

But the challenger has the same rear end as the dart and charger. Mustang is fully unique

I would have to disagree. While the Charger and Dart do share the same rear panel, the Challenger is completely different and resembles that of a 1971 Challenger. Here are the 2015s.

Looks amazingly similar. Perhaps not to car nuts like us, but to an average buyer, amazingly similar.

My wife saw a fusion while we were driving and asked if that was the new mustang, I said nope, learn your cars woman. Lol So yeah to the average car person the similarity is striking similar until you get to certain aspects of the car, like the rear end.

I think it is a fail on Ford's design department in a sense. I know automakers make all of their models look similar in certain respects; however, I don't think it should be that way with certain models. Have some creativity.

Just solidifies my desire to have a Fusion for a daily driver... if I can't drive my Mustang every day, at least I can drive something reminiscent of it. Now, of course, I'd like to put that 3.5L ecoboost into the Fusion...
