Sponsorships?

I see a lot of people that have different brands on their mustangs like bumper stickers and what not. I was wondering do they get sponsored to do that?

Most people with decals on their car are not sponsored, they just put them on because they like the company or have their parts.

9/10 times it's just stickers from the companies who's products they bought. I usually stick one or two of them on my car in the quarter windows

I wish that I had a sponsor...

In some racing series, various aftermarket parts manufacturers will sometimes give out "contingency money" to certain participants who are signed up with them and are using their parts and , of course, advertising their product via stickers. Generally, they have strict guidelines on where the stickers are placed on the vehicle.
You, typically, need to be very talented at your form of racing or know somebody, to get any form of sponsorship though.

Hey Andrew, I notice that Brett has a fair number of stickers on his car... Does he have any sponsors that you are aware of?

I know that Fully Torqued Racing is a sponsor of his. Not sure about Maximum Motorsports. The SN95 source one is the forum he is on and is a mod of. Not sure of the others.

That's better than nothing!

The Tire Rack sticker on his windshield is mandatory if you race in the SCCA/Tire Rack National Solo Tour. I don't think that anyone gets paid to have it on their car.

Yep, I have a stack of stickers from my parts. Unless they're paying me I'm not cluttering up my car with them. Just my opinion though.

The only one I might consider is a car club decal, but none of those cheesy window banners.

I wish i was being sponsored. Then i wouldn't have to spend any more money on mods and could actually spend it on racing.

So what happens if you **** up a sponsorship?

Do they demand their parts back or something?

If you are referring to a NASCAR or F1 driver, I'm sure that is all worked out with contracts and teams of lawyers... Like most business arrangements.

The "Contingency Races" that I was referring to, you need to pay for and install your own parts. You then sign up with the aftermarket vendor and they tell you where to, prominently, place their stickers on your car. (The trunk lid is one of their favorite places!) You then get compensated after you have completed that race. So there is really no way that you can F it up... If your car breaks and you are out for the season, you don't get paid.
The amount that you might get from these contingency deals is relatively tiny compared to what it costs to campaign a car for a season. I used to have a neighbor who is a fairly well known winged, sprint car driver here on the west coast. He had, for a few years, the best sponsorship that I have ever, personally, seen anyone get in motorsports. All he had to do is just show up at the track with his helmet and driving suit. The car and the crew were owned by somebody else and was ready and waiting for him. His only pay was a percentage of the purse if he placed well enough to win anything.

There's a joke in motorsports that goes like this:
"Do you know how to make a small fortune racing?"
"Start with a large fortune"

Except for the highest levels of televised motorsports, there is no money to be made. People do it because they love it.

Can you become millionaire from racing?

Yes, but only if you are a billionaire first.

Or you're insanely good and then drive for F1. Or you're mediocre and drive for NASCAR

Wouldn't everyone? Crazy how young most of the best drivers are. But the car culture is different in Europe.

I would be extremely happy to have a sponsor. The reality thought is that I'm: A: not good enough and B: not driving in any high enough profile events for a sponsor to pick me up.
Sponsorship is quite simply advertising. Sponsors need to make enough money on product sales that you bring in to justify spending the money in the first place.
