Angry Supposed 2009 Camaro Specs

According to Motor Trend magazine, Chevy has released some numbers for the new Camaro which they say are very close to the final numbers.
The V6 will weigh 3700 lbs and have a 3.6L engine pumping out 270hp.
The V8 will weigh 3900 lbs and have a 6.2L engine pumping out 395 hp and 395 lb-ft torque.
The top model will wear an SS badge and have 420 hp.

While these numbers are certainly respectful, I find it hard to believe they will be all that high. Also, the SS will be the slowest according to the power: weight ratios I have worked out as compared to the SRT Dodge and the SVT Ford.

Your thoughs???

I don't think they'll have any trouble hitting those power numbers. Look at the CTS-V and LS3 Corvettes. I am dissapointed, though on the weight numbers. The current crash safety regulations are killing us.

Re: Supposed 2009 Camaro Specs

The only thing im really suprised about is the horsepower of the SS model. My dad has an 06 malibu SS and that thing halls balls. I would think an SS camaro would push high 300's if not close to the 425 that the 6.1 challenger hemi engine produces.

Yeah, well it's not the slowest at all. It is a pig in weight as we can see, but power to weight only goes so far. Also, SS compared to a SVT and SRT? Might want to check what category of cars you're pulling this from. Maybe you should use a GT Mustang, not a SVT
Once they make a race-model camaro, then you can compare it to the 2x priced cars by ford and dodge.

I'll repost this from the challenger thread:
Quote:
2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8
* Vehicle Curb Weight: 4,140 lbs.
* 0 to 60 mph: 4.8 seconds
* 1/4 Mile Time: 13.3 seconds

2008 Ford Mustang GT
* Vehicle Curb Weight: 3,540 lbs.
* 0 to 60 mph: 5.1 seconds
* 1/4 Mile Time: 13.8 seconds

2010 Chevy Camaro
* Vehicle Curb Weight: 3,913 lbs.
* 0 to 60 mph: 4.6 seconds
* 1/4 Mile Time: 13.4 seconds

I figure the 2010 Mustang will be similar to the Camaro when it comes out, but thats just a guess. Also, the SRT8 is hard to compare to the SS and GT since it's a even higher "class", the R/T V8 would probably be a more fitting partner to do this with, but I don't think they've got times or anything with it yet, and it'll just make Dodge look bad.

I'll repost this from the challenger thread:
the ss would be the equvilant of the svt, and the reg v8 would be the equvilant to the gt. always been that way as far as im concerned, where your going with that is the wrong direction, its always been v6 vs. v6, gt vs z28 and ss vs cobra

ya but the 2008 is the model year I was refering to. In 09 is where those options come into play. However all 08 models are strictly SRT8.

As far as I know (maybe I'm wrong ) the SS is the base V8 for Chevy, and will be priced right around the Mustang GT. Therefore it will be the competitor of the GT and R/T.

There is a LS (V6), LT (V6), and SS (V8). LT and SS can have a RS Appearance package, but there is no other V8 option.

Well i ment in the past, but with the HP #'s for the ss on this thread it looks as though it is gunning for cobra, srt territory. and it looks like 2 v8 options 2 me (at least per this thread)

I'm not sure where this other phantom V8 is coming from for the Camaro?

I don't care what the horsepower numbers are, the Camaro SS is competing (pricing, production, and sales) with the Mustang GT and Challenger R/T.

If they make a ___ Camaro that is $10,000 more than the SS, and is limited production, then we'll compare that to the Shelby and SRT8.

I'll go with the fact that the SS is their top dog so it competes with the top dog of their competitors (SVT and SRT)

Does SVT even exist anymore?
