Hey Team,

OP Here (for those that just joined the thread).

Got some advice with the lawyer here and it looks like it would cost some cash to sue these guys. I'm trying to figure out how much but it seems multiple thousands.

This really pissed me off since (1) I only have about $200 of products non-delivered from HIDGuy but (2) I know HIDGuy will keep doing whatever they'll keep doing until they're charged.

I'm currently trying to figure out the exact cost of suing them. Again we run the risk of these guys being insolvent (I doubt it), and not being able to get our money back as they might owe money to other creditors (loans, lines of credit, credit cards etc.) BEFORE us.

Regardless, I'm still following up. Might end up doing some sort of crowdfunding thing and see if the Mustang community is up for taking this to the next level.

$5 here, $10 there could really help destroy a business that's been fu*king over people for so long.

On the other hand, does anyone OR is anyone a lawyer here and would like to invest a couple of hours on this?

Reach out to your network, friends, family. Let's get rid of these guys.

The money isn't the problem, we need to spread this news across and find a stangbro (lol) that either is a lawyer or closely knows one enough to assist.

The company is in Cali, so it would be easier if they're based there.

I know a lawyer. We aren't super close though, and he usually doesnt do this type of practice.

Talked to a friend of mine down there, we'll be sending them a Demand Letter with all the information from people who have reached out already.

Good thing is, under CA law, there's a 4 year statute of limitations.

Let's see if they'll ignore the Demand Letter, then we can get to the suing.

PayPal refund

Hi Guys, so, I previously mentioned that I got stung by HIDGUYmodshop to the tune of $960 and that I had paid via PayPal.

I opened a case through PayPal and this gave HIDGuy until the 20th to reply. That date has just passed and Ive received an email from PayPal saying:

"We have concluded our investigation into your case and have decided in your favour.

We were able to recover $960.62 USD, and this amount has been credited to
you. Please allow 5 working days for this adjustment to be posted.

If you are due any additional funds, we will make our best effort to
recover the balance from the seller.

If the seller's account has insufficient funds to complete the refund owed
to you, please be assured that we will take appropriate action against the
seller's account, which may include limitation of the seller's account
privileges."

So, assuming there are no issues with the funds, I may be getting my money back!

You'll get your money. If he has insufficient funds, then his account will go negative and he won't be able to use it until he adds money to bring it back positive.

Paypal actually got someone's money back??!?!?!?!!

Wow... that's a first, at least in my experience with them. Did you purchase additional buyer's protection for that transaction or do you have a premium account of some sort?

Last time I had an issue they said no matter how much the transaction was I would only be able to recover $175 unless I had purchased insurance.

Either way this is great news, once this jackass starts getting hit in the wallet by companies that are going to be like "what the literal **** is going on?" maybe they'll get their **** together. Or not... as long as people are getting their money back from somewhere.

Thats good news! Do you have an uncle working at paypal or something? lol they wouldn't budge for me. $960 is a lot of $$$ so I'm really glad you were able to get it back. Make sure to check your account and follow up with paypal if you have too, because they once told me after talking to their specialists that I would get a refund for an ebay item in the recent past but they never did anything and the money never made it to my account. Good luck.

This is just the beginning...

I'm sure he will have the money as he continues to take money via PayPal daily from people. Glad to hear you got your money back.

money back!

I can confirm, Ive got the money back in my account!
Maybe there are different PayPal rules in the UK over the US that mean I am covered and you guys arent?

I think the fact HIDGuy didnt even bother to respond to the PayPal resolution centre didnt help his cause at all... pretty much saying "guilty as charged"!

Maybe HIDGUY is truly having trouble getting parts and materials from China and is in over his head on handling the issues and volume of business. I know it can be a pain in the butt getting materials and parts from China and it takes weeks. Not making excuses for him but the fact his PayPal account is still live is a good sign and you guys could possibly still have a chance to get your stuff.

Screw getting their stuff. I say get their money back. They can use that money for other mods that won't take six months to a year to get. Hell if they even get it at all.

Yeah agreed! Look if this guy was in any way serious about keeping his customers happy, he would at least put some kind of statement up on his site stating that there is a backlog and customers should expect a long lead time!
Instead there is complete silence, so he should not be at all surprised that people think hes ripping them off!

I understand their frustration I'm just saying they may have a better chance at getting the merchandise than a refund.

Then let the lawyers destroy him. Even if they get what they ordered who knows if it would be quality work. I'd rather take the chance of getting my money back or not and shutting him down than getting a product that fails later down the line and I end up spending more money.

If he does start to ship out a ton of "backlogged" product to try to appease all the people filing paypal claims/sending in actual demand letters then I have a feeling it will be rushed and of a lesser quality than some of the earlier run stuff.

I like how it's everyone else's problem that they have all these orders they can't seem to fill.

I wonder if he goes to bed at night (after slaving on builds while we sleep) and wonders what life would have been like had he just refunded that one guy his money
