Update. Called a dealer and they said they'll be getting information from Ford late next week about how to handle the recalls. At least they are aware of it now with an upcoming plan of action.

The dealer says my car's vin comes back as needing the fix, but then the guy tells me they don't have this fix yet. I am thinking he means they don't have the parts maybe? Has anyone else been given this response?

Yeah, I don't think many Ford dealers have the repair kits, because Takata is the bottleneck (with 34 million defective units, it will take them a while, even if acquiring inflators from other manufacturers). There also may be a procedure to how Ford determines which cars get them first: by age, by VIN range, first-come/first-serve, etc.

This is easy if your worried

Go to any Motorcycle shop and get a Full Face Helmet with a shatterproof face shield. It does seem that only the drivers side airbags have the problem so no need for a passengers side one unless you want to talk. Then you need to get the one for the passenger but you also need to get the intercom that installs in the helmets so you can have a nice conversation.
Problem solve until they get to fix your airbag so it won't blow up and kill you.

You'll also need neck protection...

I don't think so because of the head rests.

It would be an option though if you really want to be safe when the airbag explodes. It can really happen because out of the couple billion cars on the road with those airbags in them they did have a few dozen go off when they were not supposed to and a few of them actually killed people. Mostly in places like I live (FLORIDA) were it is damp and raining all the time.
I guess everybody already knows that the Japanese Company involved is going to raise the cost of the airbags a whole lot to recoup the cost of this recall. They add it to the manufactures that add it to the car buyers. Only the consumer loses on this.

Thanks for the replies. I figured it would take a while considering the amount of cars involved. I am in a dry climate maybe that helps

Well

Instead of a motorcycle shop , a person could do one of two things to get this way better equipment. Go to an Army & Navy store or Join up.
It just depends on if you want to pay or You want to get paid for wearing this equipment.

So last night some network show like 20/20 goes to car rental agencies and busts their chops for renting mustangs that will have official airbag recalls.
So they supposedly pull them from their fleet. What are we to do? Park 34 million cars?
Ford has no ETA on my airbag and this is my DD. Not much in a helmet and neck protector mood.

^ That was actually the NBC national news. Kinda gives Ford a black eye.

I got my recall notice, but since it clearly states that there's no remedy available and I'll have to wait for a second notification, it's kinda useless.

You can try and sue Ford, but they are not the manufacturer of the air bag. They too are in a wait period, and this affects them and their customers unfortunately. They sourced out the airbags, and now have to wait for them to provide the fix kits.

Worry some part would be if Takata were to file for chapter 11; this is going to be huge in their profit margin.

The huge problem is :::::::

It is not every single airbag that is defective. Instead of putting production numbers on what they were making so if they ever had a problem they would know which series in a production run to recall.
That company probably bought components from a few different places and probably can[t tell who made the defective parts.

Why I hate the news is that they are very vague on what they report. From that news report it looks like every Mustang ever made is dangerous and "DON"T BUY ONE" They are Americas worst enemy.

Out of the almost billion airbags, There were only a small number that failed.
The one's that did fail were tragic and really should never have happened.

I got my second letter from Ford and they will send another when they get the parts need to be replaced.

I'll probably be at the American Muscle all Mustang show when they send the letter.
Ronnie

PS: I do turn Mario's airbag off .

So is there a fuse we can pull to disable the killer airbag?
I have spent 30 years in my volvo with no airbag. If I park the stang I will be back in a non-airbag car anyways. (and having less fun)
