Can I use my FoMoCo ESP "Premium Care" at an independent garage?

The Ford website for the ESP hints at this as a possibility, but I am not certain.

My car is in for some transmission work at a very good local shop, and they state that they accept most extended warranties (just not new car warranties--and mine expired since I'm way past 36k miles).

Your trans should be part of the drivetrain warranty which should be 5yr 60k right?

But then I need to let a dealer inside my transmission. Learned my lesson after letting a dealer inside my rear end.

I don't let anyone inside my rear end. Lmao. I hear ya. I'm just saying it's not under the extended if it's covered under the factory warranty correct?

Not sure if that's just the 3/36 or the 5/60 powertrain. The paperwork says the ESP, when purchased, begins on the date of purchase (whatever the mileage)...so I'm confused.

Well I'm no expert on that crap. I never buy those and never use the warranty unless I absolutely have to.

I complained after my dealer royally screwed up some warranty work. Sometimes it pays to b***h and moan.

ESP will pay for independent shops, with prior approval, if the repairs are covered. Extended warranties don't pay for powertrain if the factory warranty is still in effect, only rental car and deductible are covered by ESP then.

That is my sense too, so I may be SOL for the bulk of the money because the car is a hair under 60k miles. But if it will cover a rental and deductible (for what, the $100 ESP deductible?), I'll take that.

If rather pay the money for guaranteed work that's done right the first time than get free work that will leave me with doubts for as long as I have the car.

normally when it comes to transmissions, they will just replace the whole thing.. not alot of dealers actually repair them anymore.

Well, my local dealer managed to damage my car putting it on their lift, so there isn't much I would trust them to do.

You can always go to another dealer... it isn't like there is just one. Around me I have 3 or 4 dealers in an hour radius easy. Maybe more...

So, to answer my own question: yes, you can. Because the work was considered an emergency repair, Ford can (reluctantly) reimburse you for using an independent shop. It took 3 months of working with a dealer warranty admin (not the dealer that messed up my car), but a welcome delay as the result was some needed $.
