Shift boot issues

Hey there Stang lovers... I have a 2000 V6 and my shift boot (the lower portion) does not attach to the shift bezel (the plastic part around the stick shift). I know it should, but there are no retainer clips or anything to hold the leather boot to the bezel.

Any ideas?
