I think the Challenger is pretty bad *** looking myself I was very close to getting one. Some of the different packages I like better than others and it would be my second choice behind my Mustang

I agree that it is a good looking vehicle.............but somewhere in this thread is a pic of a Mustang between two Challengers..............the 'Stang looks TINY compared to the size of the Challengers!
You really don't see how BIG that vehicle is until you park it next to a known quantity.
Its no wonder it weighs so much, just given its overall dimensions.

The 05-09 does appear smaller and does represent the first generation Mustang fairly well

The original Challenger/Cuda was big pony car as well. I must say that all the retro models overall represent their ancestors pretty well.

Its probably in the 3400-3500lb range. Less overall stuff in the car, but heavier metal. Thats around what my friends 69 fire chicken weighs.

The vehicle content may be higher now but they used heavy cast iron blocks and a lot thicker steel back then.

I guess that 3100 lbs was a six. Looks like they got as high as 3700 lbs+/- with the 440 engine.

I'm sure and they were nose heavy as hell. I had a 68 Firebird with a 455 in it and it definitely preferred to travel in straight lines. I had it for a long time and sometimes I miss it but my Mustang is just much more practical. It does everything better and I can take it on a trip with much less worries and Air Conditioning.

The new comparison test in Car and Driver (that left out the Challenger because it finishes dead last in every comparison test)....stated that the Challenger is 9 inches longer than either the Mustang or the new Camaro.......that's a bunch!..............Then again....Our Mustang is 2 and 1/2 feet longer than our last Miata, so it's all relative.....

If you are really interested in a Hell Cat I recommend you go rent a regular Challenger and drive if for a weekend. I had one as a rental car last spring and the thing was a POS. To hit the gas peddle you had to place your foot on the tranny hump and pretty much leave it there. It is hard to see over the front end on a hill and curve. Parking would be easier in a Semi there turning radius of a slow boat. I own a 2013 Shelby and would never even think about the Dodge no matter how many horses. I have had three Dodges in my life and all of them where POS the 2014 Jeep Wrangler is a lease and will most likely go back again before 36000 miles for another electrical problem. The 06 Ram had a POS 5.7 Hemi engine that would just loose oil pressure and everything rattled. Shut it off restart it and away you go. Seems the oil sump is too small and get plugged up really easy. Th radio stopped working at 45000 miles and half the lighting died at the same time. I went on line and found all the fixes seems Dodge hass had the same problem since 1996. Now that FIAT owns them I doubt anything will change.

I own a 2011 Charger 5.7 Hemi with ALL options including AWD. Other than some recalls and a warranty covered item, I've had good luck with it. I've had it for 4 yrs 7 mos but only have 29,000 miles on it. It has cylinder deactivation so it runs on 4 cyl when taking it easy or on the highway, so mpg is decent.
Makes for a pretty good family car.
However, it weighs a good 4400 lbs. vs. my 3500 lb Mustang. So of course the Mustang is my favorite car to drive in good weather.
Oh yeah, the other downside to the Charger besides the weight is 16 spark plugs and the need to replace them (copper core) every 24 to 30,000 miles.

Challenger hellcat or 2013-14 gt500?

The challenger does drive big, the Camaro feels like your sitting in a bunker or pillbox, and the Mustang feels just right. That's why I bought a Mustang

Challenger hellcat or 2013-14 gt500?

I drove a Challenger why I was waiting to by my Mustang... My mind didn't change... Haha

Spent a year or so exercising a 2010 Camaro (2SS Indy 500 Pacer replica). That was a fun cat but sheesh, I could feel it was heavy. Only one way to fight weight, more power.

It will depend a lot on what you want. I am a huge mopar fan. And can tell you the Hellcat will be a collectors item. As the current challenger will be ending soon by '18-'19 and the hellcat may not follow into the next generation. My last car was a v6 '11 challenger that I loved. It is much more livable than the mustang and roomier. However as others have stated it does get rough in wet roads. Oddly my new 14 GT does better on rainy days. And I will say the Hellcat roar is beautiful. A customer where I work has one and you hear that thing crank up a mile a way. Ive heard corvettes, lambos, and hell even vipers.. And the Hellcat can almost come close to sounding as powerful. However in counter I will say the mustang will handle sharper and better. But if your wanting attention, mustangs are everywhere, Hellcats are more scarce. I love both cars. a little less so in the 15' mustangs new image directions. But I would put my money on the Challenger. They are worlds different so take some time to see which you will be most comfortable in long term.

FCA is debuting a 4 wheel drive Hemi Challenger at SEMA this week. They have not said they are going to produce it, but this would make for better traction with the Hellcat engine.........anyone ready for an over 5,000 pound Challenger?

I have an RT and a GT. The RT rides nice like a luxury car, even with the SRT8 suspension. But I do like the R styling, not as much as the Mustang though. The automatic takes out any fun factor. My '10 GT, Auto was waaaay more fun to drive. My 12 GT MT flat out just rocks compared to the RT. Granted the Hellcat isn't an RT or even close.

I guess if the money was no issue I would go hellcat. If money was an issue I would go gt500. Maintenance on a dodge is ridiculous at least from what I remember with my 07 rt charger.

Challenger hellcat or 2013-14 gt500?

I would think the price in hellcats should be coming down starting to see more of them around. If anyone is looking for a GT 500 let me know my boss at work has one he wants to sell its a 2013 black with matte black stripes and glass roof. I think it's got around 5000 miles on it also has a watts link and long tube headers.

Opposite actually. Dodge raised the base MSRP on them up a few thousand. I think they start at 62,500 now or right in that area. For the 16 Challenger. Then I believe the Trackhawk (hellcat jeep) will becoming in late 16 or 17.

Pick your poison.

They are both ridiculously too expensive for the performance you get IMO.

Apparently the 2017 gt500 will have over 750hp that would blow by a hellcat
