It is so subjective really. What is your budget? If budget allows slap a supercharger on and call it a fay

Buy a tuner online from a website like American Muscle.

Cold air intakes and tuners? Or chips and tuners?

You mean as pairs? Because while an intake and tune go together, the intake does hardly anything. And chips and tuners together would be pointless, as they serve the same function.

That being said, I say go for a tuner

Cause I was reading about getting a tune and said that having a cold air intake helps or at least makes more sense to have some mods

The stock airbox is pretty decent, as far as they go. Most people will agree that they don't do much except increase cabin noise. Some people will vouch for the CAI

I personally have an SF4/X4 with BAMA email tunes, but I've heard really good things about MPT, the BAMA ones with the free tunes for life may be a good starting point if you plan to keep modding and need constant tune updates

In my experience, it improved throttle response, power, and overall driveability. Somebody else may be able to get into the specifics of what BAMA's email tune alters, probably Alex.

When filling out the tuning form, you choose the octanes you want each tune to be written for; the higher the octane, the greater the increase in power. I would suggest seeing what is the highest octane available in your area, and have a tune written for that.

Oh, and if you have an auto, it'll make the car shift much more aggresively

For $500...

1. $400 - Get a handheld tuner such as a SCT X4 with some "custom" tunes. They really are semi custom to where they base the tune loosely off any current mods, wheel/tire size, gearing etc. American Muscle is a nice option as they offer free tunes for life. If you add a new mod that would affect your current tune, you simply let AM's tuning tech know and they will send out an updated tune.

Dyno tuning is the most accurate and tends to yield the best gains, but it is fairly expensive to do every time you add a new modification and really isn't necessary on a stock-near stock 2V.

2. ~$200 - Provided you're a 5spd, if you can swing another ~$100 get a short throw shifter (MGW or Tri Ax). It will make the car much more enjoyable to drive.

I am a New Edge fan myself. I just picked up an unmolested 02 GT convertible after searching for 3 months.

From my understanding the GT is not going to see a ton of power increased with everyday bolt-ons. Ford did a decent job with the exhaust and air delivery system.

There are a few ponies to be found, but there is normally a trade-off. I have 3.73 gears, and that does give a better "seat of the pants" feel. With that a stage 1 Exedy clutch and SR Performance quadrant was installed. I do not drive the car hard at all. My daughters tell me that I drive like a grandpa. I just grin. If I want to go fast I will buy another Hayabusa. However, a stiff clutch and quicker gears produced a whine in the trans, and now and slight howl in the rear end (could be noise transferred through the drive train). I get to pull the trans and investigate, hoping it's a bad throwout bearing and not an input bearing.

There is also an MGW short throw shifter that was installed.

To find more power in the 281cid / 4.6 liter engine it is my understanding that a new set of heads, intake, throttle body, and injectors is needed. I could be wrong. I am a Mopar guy that is a Mustang fan. I don't know a lot about Ford, and have never cared for the Brand, but the Mustang is in a class of its own as far as I am concerned.
