Supercharged vs 5.0

Hi all new to the forum so if I'm doing something wrong here feel free to let me know.

Anyways so I have a 2010 Mustang GT Premium that i really do love, I ended up with a 2010 because I got a killer deal on it, about 5k under KBB at the time I was in the market for an 05-09 but then this one popped up for roughly the same price so I went with the newer body style and I'm pretty happy about that.

So my question is and I'm guessing most will probably scream go with the 5.0 from everything I've read but in the next 4-6 months I'm thinking about picking up either a supercharger (most likely an edelbrock being as there one of the few CA legal ones) or with that same amount of money I could finish the payments on the car and sell it and move up to a 5.0 my 4.6 has all the bells and whistles which i really like and i probably wouldn't have that if i moved up to a 5.0 and Im sure that the supercharged 4.6 would be quicker than the 5.0 atleast a stock one. but then theres the reliability factor... anyway thanks let me know what you guys think.

Sell it and get a 5.0. Simple bolt on Coyote will blow your doors off even after the supercharger.

if you're happy with your car then by all means keep it.

me personally, i'd get a 5.0. i raced a friend with a vortech supercharged 4.6 S197 with some bolt ons and we were neck to neck or my car would be a bit ahead of his, and my 5.0 at that time only had pypes cat back exhaust. he later blew his engine at some point, so one thing to keep in mind is reliability.

you can put your car for sale on craigslist and wait for the right offer, if you consider getting a 5.0.

The biggest thing that has me leaning towards a 5.0 is reliability, I guess the safest power adder I could get is a new car with a better engine lol One thing that puzzles me is when a lot of people say oh a slightly modded 5.0 will walk away from a supercharged 4.6... now correct me if I'm wrong but if I'm sitting at 460-480 to the wheels and have traction how will a slightly modded 5.0 walk away? aren't they around 380 to the rear wheels I understand horsepower isn't everything but it is something

If my 4.6 was making over 460 to the wheels I would try to enjoy it and smoke as many 5.0s (and other cars) as I could until it blows up!

If the car will be your daily driver, meaning you have to rely on it every day to get to work or school, get a 5.0.

If it's a weekend/race car and you have another ride it's really up to you. The 5.0 has much more potential. It's simply a better platform to start with. But if you're attached to your car and don't want to part ways you can will still have fun in a 400rwhp S/C 3V.

The 3V isn't as anemic as everyone says it is and the block is capable of holding up to more power than the previous aluminum 4V. The rods are still the weak point and the pistons aren't much better. Same with the stock clutch, most guys surpassing the 375-400rwhp level are ditching it. I personally wouldn't push the internals beyond 450rwhp. This where the 5.0 is leaps and bounds ahead of the previous N/A mod engines. It is built to take abuse well into the 600's.

Bottom line, it comes down to how much power you want. If you will be happy with 400-450rwhp in your current car then go for it. The supercharger whine is addictive.

If you are like most and want more and more power get a 5.0. Currently, that is your best option to make big power.

A supercharged 3.7 makes about 475 horses to wheels and is faster than a 5.0 as well. But if you want the best engine and the end all be all most potential down the road get a 5.0

Supercharged vs 5.0

You might consider slapping a turbo on your car. Crank it up to 450rwhp and you'll have a really fun car to cruise in. With the necessary supporting mods. Or get a TVS blower. I agree with Sonic, blower whine is addicting. My little M90 is a screamer.
I'm doing a N/A build on my GT; I think it should be around 340rwhp. The 3Vs are no way near as impressive N/A as a Coyote.

All turbos, TVS blower m90 are not smog legal in the Communist Republic of California haha and thats not something id want to take on and off every time i need to smog.. this decision is still a while out for me just planning ahead but I think the smart and safe choice would be move up to a 5.0

This gets a award for being the one of the most generic and bland comments ever. 👍🏼

Sorry but peak horse power at 475 on a 3.7 doesn't mean it's keeping up with a bolt on 5.0. You have to look at the whole power band. Those cars with blowers make terrible tq numbers just saying.

I've seen plenty of them run in the elevens, tq is pretty darn near the same as hp. But that's not really my point of my post. My point was that any surpercharged or turboed engine will be faster than a 5.0, but the 5.0 will always be better. And then down the road you can do the same thing to it you would a lesser engine and make it that much better. By no means was a suggesting a supercharged 3.7 over a 5.0.
