You can cut and squeeze a small o ring around it between the base and the glass.

Middle seam? Please describe.

My mirror rattles terribly since installing a sub woofer in the trunk. The mount to the windscreen seems solid, no play there. The rattle seems to come from the mirror assembly itself. If I could feel some screws on the back of it I'd disassemble it and stuff some foam or something in there. My car has the auto dimming and I think the compass antenna inside it.

In-between the windshield and base of the mirror against the windshield.

Does any body know if the auto dimming mirror can be opened up.I'm sure I could fix the rattle then. I can squeeze the top &: bottom with my hand and it quits. But bracket to the windshield is Solid.

This is my exact scenario.

Mine was rattling and what I described above was the remedy. Would stop if I put my hand on the mirror as well.

Worth a try then I guess. Did your's actually have some play or movement there at that point? Mine seems solid but the rubber buffer may be serving as a damper.

It seemed solid as well but some googling this issue landed me on that solution and it worked.

Update on 2012 "Rattle in auto dimming mirror"
FIXED IT by carefully splitting open at the middle seam, cutting a few pieces of the peel & stick weather strip foam tape on either side of the main P C board. Then snapping it all back together.

What did you use to split it open? Did you take any photos? I have some of those plastic pry tools I thought I might try. I did stick some pieces of Dynamat to the tops and bottom of the mirror as a test but it made no difference at all.

Used a med. Flat blade screwdriver w/ pc. Of tape covering the tip, be forewarned the outer plastic case is kinda soft and can leave a impression at the seam, I started at the top and worked my way down Me , I was fixing this or replacing it .

I had the same problem. Took it back to the dealer and they replaced the mirror and have not had a problem since. This must be a common problem.
