In the market and have had my eye on a 2012 Boss with 20,000+ miles but I am also thinking that a 2015 or 16 GT might be smarter. Both are scarce here but I am interested in others thoughts. Would be a daily driver and yes I know the independent suspension is nice but I have a soft spot for solid axle.
Thanks for any insight
Out there yeah I bet... um... honestly this is a personal preference call. The interior and bells and whistles are better on the S5550 but I think if it was me I'd get the Boss unless you are getting like... a new 2017 for a good deal and warranty. But my reasoning is that the 10-14 body style, especially the 10-12 body style is just amazing.
Now if I can just convince my wife to let me put in for orders (active military) to Hawaii... she doesn't want to have to give up any of our pets and I think the limit is taking like 2 pets onto the island...
Daily driver in Hawaii traffic...15-17 GT hands down, but if occasional driver and you plan to hold onto the car for several years- then go Boss for sure.
Yeah that too, that's one thing we hear all the time from ppl who have been stationed in Hawaii is that the traffic is like... nuts. And not just like Northeast/California nuts because of rush hour I mean there are literally not enough roads for everyone nuts.
Might want to consider a 11-up automatic honestly. Boss was stick only.
Its a mustang with suspension upgrades and a little better engine... Biggest reason to get it is it's got 200hp on the regular Coyote before the rods become an issue. IMO anyway.
I think the alternator, radiator, oil pan, intake, rearend, brakes, tire/wheels... just about everything has an upgrade.. from the stand GT of the same year.. it does have a straight axle. Which may or may not be an issue with some people.
The newer GT with IRS would be nice...
I drove a lot of GT's before driving the Boss 302, and that's how I made my decision. .
I would test drive them. You might like the IRS on the newer model..
Agreed. Hell test out the new Camaro and Challenger too lol.
Yeah the Boss has a lot of upgrades but you have to measure if its worth the premium price or not. A stock 11-14 GT base model with 40k miles for $18k is a LOT of car for the money and not exactly a ton needs to get done to make it fast as ****.
But he might prefer the IRS for sure, for the 04-down cars its no contest in my book between the 4 link and the IRS, one is going in my 2000 despite the "irs issues". The 05-14s are good in the fact that those have a really REALLY good 3 link setup from the factory.
Well you hit on one of my reasoning's I have a 2010 auto and I like it, I am one of those that think it is one of the best looking. So one reason for the Boss is there, drove a stick 2016 California Special and that is when I started thinking of IRS but old school mentality ( I'm 66 today) and still like to wrestle so to say when I drive. Boss is impractical here for traffic but you gotta love it.
I have not driven a newer GT with the IRS. but I would think that, with the AT would be a good DD.. then add adj. shocks, (suspension systems are often overlooked. ) and a better exhaust system. . Now you are talking a very sweet driving machine..
(I'm 53, I have been driving mustangs for over 35 years.. I'll keep my M6... I like the driving experience. I like to grab a 3rd gear scratch. And I like a good suspension. When I take a ride, it's an event... I'm living life brother..! )
You guys are making the boss to be way more than it is. Again, if you likes the looks of the s550, then buy one with the performance package and be happy. If not get a 2013/ 2014 gt with track package. Track pac had a lot of boss parts, except engine, which unless your going to get wild with engine mods is probably not worth the premium price. Again, he's talking about a daily driver, not drag racing or road racing.
Boss here just because I love the look of the 13's/14's, wish I had gone this route. Located one with only 4k on the odometer, went with a 14 GT instead.
Honestly if you're not going to race it at all I would just get a GT automatic. but the boss is a whole lot of fun I've had mine since 2012 and I still love it every day. I don't know why but there's a different feeling to driving a boss than a regular GT Mustang and also if you're going to keep it for years the boss could be a better option. because It will rise higher in value later on to. but for a daily driver I would just get a GT Mustang. but it all comes down to what you want at the end of the day. so I would drive the heck out of every car that is in your range and make a pick.
I would like to thank all those who replied to the post, believe me all comments wee appreciated, and all are what I have been pondering. Originally went to look at the Boss and ended up driving a 2016 with 10,000 miles. I have a thing if a car clicks with buy it, I didn't and now its gone ( California Special around the same price. The reason is the Boss was still on my mind. And everything said about Hawaii's traffic is true spent 2 hours today going 12 miles. But it's a Boss. Right now have 2010 GT with a few suspension mods and I like it but it's not a Boss. So again thank you all
