How could this have happened? The ONLY thing you can even do after you see this is to:

It looks like a group of Mustangs was traveling down the freeway in a tight line, when they came up to stopped traffic in an area that was a "bottleneck" due to road construction. Since they were obviously tailgating one another, there was no where to go except to run into each other.
I do know that our GT convertible costs more to insure than the 2008 base Corvette we used to own. Those costs are based on exposure to repair bills by the insurance companies, so statistically, more ‘Stangs are wrecked per capita than ‘Vettes.
There were people behind the barriers and the Mustangs did what they always do and crashed into the barrier trying to run over the people. Once the first Mustang hit the barrier, the people scattered and the following Stangs got confused and ran into each other.
Happens every Mustang Week and most cars and coffee events when more than a few Mustangs are corralled together with people standing on the side of the road.
